Needham’s Wolf: The launch of the iPhone 4S sent Apple Retail Store sales ‘into the stratosphere’

“Apple Stores are always busy places, but they tend to go crazy when a major new product is launched. With the arrival of the iPhone 4S, writes Needham’s Charlie Wolf in his tenth annual report on the state of Apple’s (AAPL) retail empire, they went absolutely nuts,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

• Revenue per store: a record $17.08 million, $5 million better than Dec. 2010
• Same store sales: up 42.6% year over year
• Sales per square foot: $2,033 for the quarter, or an annualized rate of $8,133 (Tiffany’s: $2,974 per sq. ft.)

  1. I bought my 4s at Mall of America on December 18. The store was packed but I received absolutely stellar service while switching from T-Mobile to AT&T. By the way, AT&T service in the southwest suburban Minneapolis area has improved dramatically from four years ago when I left AT&T.

  2. I also got my iPhone 4S at an Apple store. Same story. Place was packed. Service wasn’t compromised & exceeded my expectations (& I’m a tough customer given my service industry background). The guys in blue seemed genuinely happy & kept their smiles until the evening. Ron Johnson should be proud.

  3. Bought my iPad 2 online. Received it, opened and found the screen to have a yellow tint. As an artist that is important for me.

Went to the Apple store, was packed, there maybe 30 seconds and the blue guy asks me what I needed. Told him about the tint, he looked at it, said I didn’t need an appointment at the Genius bar, handed me over to a girl, she couldn’t find my iPad in their database. 5 minutes later I walked out with a new iPad.

Needless to say I was another extremely happy customer, as usual.

  4. back in Nov., got my iPhone 4S at radio shack. They arrived 10 minutes prior to my arrival . instant credit for my interiorly damaged 3GS iPhone = 90. Shweet. Got it within 20 minutes

  5. I got my ip4s at the apple store. While waiting in line a meet a girl. Later we go married and we now live happily with our 3 children.

just kidding, but I did get great service when I bought my iphone on day one at the apple store.
