Level 3 Communications gives 1,300 iPads to its North American sales team

“Level 3 Communications just gave iPads to its 1,300 North American salespeople and sales engineers,” Chris Murphy reports for InformationWeek. “IT didn’t take away their laptops, but it did load the iPads with software to do all the most important things in a salesperson’s life: offer price quotes, build and make presentations, send email, look up customer records, check products.”

“Level 3’s sense of urgency is a reminder of just how fast tablets are moving into mobile workers’ lives,” Murphy reports. “2011 was the year of pilot tests. 2012 is the year companies will roll out iPads by the thousands to entire sales and service teams, packing them with purpose-built business applications, not just generic email, browsers, and off-the-shelf productivity apps.”

  1. I was watching an episode of ‘Undercover Boss’ the other night and saw that the technician was using an iPad when asking their customer to sign for ‘services rendered’.

    Pretty cool.

I imagine that this is happening in a lot of industries that we’re not aware of, yet.

    1. last year a big Lawncare/landscaping company was going door to door with iPad’s showing customers what they could do for their lawns.

They had to have made a ton of new customers.. I know I see their trucks everywhere now.

  2. How ironic, given that Level 3 insist on using Flash for their clients to access.
After logging in to mediaportal.level3.com you are given a Flash based interface, which unsurprisingly doesn’t actually work, requiring you submit tickets via email instead.
