Why Apple dominates

“Apple reported one of the most sensational quarters in corporate history this week,” The Globe and Mail reports.

“Apple’s revenue has exploded in the past four years on the surging popularity of its iPhone smartphone and iPad tablet,” The Globe and Mail reports. “Their success has even helped to push up sales of its Mac computer to record levels – while supplanting sales of the declining iPod music player, which began the company’s renaissance a decade ago.”

The Globe and Mail reports, “The backbone of Apple’s explosive growth has been the iPhone, introduced in 2007. The smartphone got a boost in 2011 with the launch of the 4S model – which includes a personal digital butler known as Siri – and accounted for more than half of revenue in Apple’s historically strong ‘Christmas’ first quarter, ended Dec. 31.”

    1. Exxon posted the best for 3rd quarter 2008. They posted 1.74 B more profit than Apple though Apple had higher gross earnings. The one to beat is Gazprom from Russia, $16.24 B profit. That is the largest on record. Pretty sure Apple will do that by next Christmas.

    2. To be fair, I saw a list with 3 companies that had better quarters, Exxon had a $14B quarter in 2008. Shell had a $15B quarter in 2008, and Gazprom had an even bigger quarter more recently. After Apple in #4, were 16 others, all oil companies, mostly Exxon. So, of the top 20 quarters, only one has been a non-oil company and that was Apple.

  1. Common wisdom says Apple innovates, designs and executes at a high level. Sounds easy. It apparently isn’t. There’s lots of Steve Jobs’ DNA in this company. I look forward to continued success.

  2. Apple should build their own search engine tie it to siri and go into the business world. Why not. Google share price would crumble. Microsoft Crumbles That would be dominating. Then fix final cut pro.

    1. Apple has built their own search engine. What do you think SIRI is? It only gives you the option for Google if SIRI doesn’t already have the answer. SIRI, other than the canned responses, taps its info from Wolfram Alpha. This is why truly Google had to make Android because Search is being attacked on all fronts by Facebook, Twitter and the iOS App Ecosystem, along with SIRI now.
