Apple’s ‘Bliss’ iTextbook project inspired by Al Gore’s ‘Our Choice’ eBook

“Apple on Thursday will unveil a new digital textbook project internally code-named ‘Bliss’ that was inspired by Al Gore’s “Our Choice” iOS e-book,” AppleInsider reports.

“The details come from a tip sent earlier in the week by an anonymous source. AppleInsider could not initially confirm any of the details and declined to publish a story,” AppleInsider reports. “However, on Tuesday The Wall Street Journal published a story corroborating many of the details in the original tip, including the fact that Roger Rosner, Apple’s vice president of development for iWork, is apparently overseeing the project.”

AppleInsider reports, “One of the primary sources of inspiration for the project was said to be an e-book released by former U.S. vice president and Apple board member Al Gore. Last year, he and Push Pop Press released “Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis” on the iOS App Store, and the interactive title was met with a great deal of praise.”

      2. “Climategate” as you phrase it was about individual scientists and their bias’

        After all was said and done, the data backs up the claims of the scientists. That Global Warming is taking place is well known. Event the US military and the CIA cite the rises in temperatures. That the cause is human is also not in doubt. Again, the military cites greenhouse gases from burning carbon based fuels as one the main causes. It also states that Oil, as a primary energy source, particularly for fuel is one of the gravest dangers to America for the forsee-able future.

        That a few scientists in the study, did not “like” some of the critics is not a reason to dismiss the end result.

        Stop denying facts.

  8. Climate change is real. Weather you think it’s influenced by the Sun, volcanos, human activity or not. What is true, is that life does change climate, and this has been recorded in the fossil record.

    Within the last 100 million years, the polar ice caps melted, and returned and are melting again.

    What is weak and needs preservation is human knowledge and society. How we go about this is painful at the least and impossible at the most.

    What is also most alarming and thought to be the bellwether of human societal collapse, is the increasing rate at which whole spices are dyeing off.

    Carl Sagen said, if we are to survive, we have to get off the planet and colonize space. Stephen Hawking said, we are to stay as far away from alien societies as possible. (We are stuck between a rock and a hard place)

    So, someone, maybe for the wrong reasons, like Al Gore decides to communicate a global climate change, or warming. Does it mean the message is wrong? No.

    There are no lies, no hidden agenda to climate change itself. However just like the idiots who want to spend our future by waisting money either by theft or inventing money to hand out to their friends, who secured their accent into political office, there are those who have an interest to deny climate change so they can continue to sell oil or pollute the environment.

    It is evident, we must do something. Something is coexisting with our ecology and setting a balance regarding the amount of energy absorbed by our planet.

    Call Al Gore a whore, but you are still going to die if you remain ignorant to what is happening to our planet. We are looking at 9 billion people in the near future, and they all want cars and iPhones or the like. It isn’t going to happen.

  20. I am an earth scientist, who is not engaged in climate studies, but in an academic institution with many colleagues, who are. The overwhelming (high 90 percentile) consensus of scientists worldwide is that climate change is occurring and humans are contributing to it. Most of the links above are to sites that take fragments of data out of context. It is ridiculous to believe that every single point on the surface of the earth will show a steady year-by-year increase in T–it does work that way. Most posters on this site are only interested in repeating anti-science propaganda, but the link to a report in http://www.politifact.com (below) contains links that document the scientific communities views.

  22. this article is about the potential of apple to change the way textbooks are used and how people will learn in the future. another potential game changer from apple. it isnt about al gore, climate change, obama etc… in fact who cares – go to another site and vent your anger. if the people on this forum are an indication of the average american, no wonder your country has problems! it aint your govts fault your life sucks and you have alot of hatred, its your own. ive been to the usa on numerous occasions and your country is awesome. you dont know how lucky you are to live there.

    1. Yes we do know how lucky we are to live here and have the US Constitution and all it’s benefits that liberals and democrats are constantly on record complaining about and wanting to destroy. That’s why we are angry and going to vote them all out John. Think about it. So right now it is the government’s fault. It has morphed into this monstrosity that taxes and spends and regulates in a completely out of control manner. It needs to be shrunk and run by conservatives that will live up to their oaths and protect the US Constitution and not find every way possible to destroy it. It blows my mind, looking in from Canada, that you would still call a President, who has governed on most issues slightly to the right of our conservative Prime Minister, a Socialist.

        I would think that conservatives on a Mac centric site might be open to actual debate. The facts have led you to the best computer platform, why can’t you accept that reality doesn’t have a Liberal bias?

  24. Did anyone actually read “Our Choice”? I got tired of reading the political drivel and may have missed some comments about the techniques and user interface used to present the information. I found the book(?) to be:

    • interesting in its presentation

    • a bandwidth hog (it doesn’t download to your app library and then let you put it on your own iDevices. Each installation is a separate, huge, download to the particular device)

    • difficult to navigate, no bookmarks, notes, index or search capability

    • proof that authors need to hire professionals for voice overs. Some speakers can send any subject to dullsville. Would Morgan Freeman or Peter Coyote really add that much to the production costs?

    •As far a the drivel is concerned, I have always found this guy particularly salient

      1. I forgot to say that the vast majority of Americans have never had a passport and know very little about other countries and what makes them tick. No political system is perfect, there is merit in every one of them. So you dislike liberals, socialists, communists, progressives and Democrats. Seems to me like you in a minority there.
