“The Apple rumor mill went into high gear this week, with reports of multiple iPads, giant televisions, and mystery events later in the month,” Josh Lowensohn reports for CNET.
“One tidbit of official news is that the company is planning to bring the iPhone 4S to China and 21 other countries next week,” Lowensohn reports. “The move, which was expected, should give the 4S a healthy sales boost considering that China has become a top market for smartphones.”
Lowensohn reports, “In a story about CES, which kicks off next week, USA Today cited a source saying that Apple was looking at 42-inch or larger panels for its future TV set. The interesting tidbit came with mention that Apple’s head of design currently has a 50-inch set sitting in his office, suggesting Apple may be thinking on the big side. A different report suggested Apple was aiming somewhere in the 32-inch to 37-inch range.”

I just want a set top box! I’ve already got a huge tv!
I just want a new carburetor, but then the success of the big TV, if Apple is offering one, may just depend on people other than the two of us.
What’s your TV, a Briggs & Stratton?
Yeah I added headers and an aluminum performance exhaust to my TV. 0 to channel 60 times really improved.
A Bardeen & Shockley
I’ve already got a 40″ Sony that’s only five years old. There’s no way I can afford to replace a perfectly good HD set that’s likely to last me another ten years, if previous experience with high-end sets is anything to go by.
But then, I have a Mac Mini plugged into it via HDMI, and into my A/V amp via optical TOSLINK, so it’s all irrelevant anyway.
Same problem as with the iMac. If already have a stand-alone monitor or an iMac, it makes no sense to me to have to buy a new monitor just to update my computer. All-in-ones are great for some people, but not everybody.
That’s why I believe that the best approach for Apple is to continue developing the AppleTV as a separate component. That leaves it open for use on any HDTV of any size from any vendor. I could see the potential for revising the design of future sets to provide greater integration with an AppleTV, perhaps as a dockable component that drives the system and takes advantage of sensors on the TV, such as infrared and RF I/O. But embedding the AppleTV limits people to what I would suspect would be a very limited range of display sizes, display types, and display manufacturers. TV’s are a low-profit commodity product. The money is in the content, associated advertisements, and auxiliary applications such as games. Using SJ’s internet jargon, the TV is the “dumb pipe” for the video. I just don’t get it. But I am glad that Apple does!
Meh, CNET article. All of those should have a “think before you click” disclaimer by default.
Sorry. A Senior Executive VP of a $400 billion corporation has a 50″ screen in his office and that can only mean one thing?
I’m a Senior Executive VP of jack shit and I have a 50″ TV in my office. For the record I have no interest in, or plans for, taking over the television industry.
when is the Jack Shit IPO?
Don’t take the risk, Jax44. The stock will go straight to the crapper.
Jonny Ives is THE decision maker for the design of all Apple products, so when he has a tv set in his office it means that he’s working on a new Apple product — not watching CNN headline news.
A CNET roundup of Apple rumors. Scrapin’ the hulls again. Scurvy knaves, the lot of ’em.
Cool story bro
Anyone that thinks for one second that Apple is going to be selling televisions is clearly delusional.
what ? ipad ? a paranoid (closed) tablet ecosystem 😀 ..
yeah, Galaxy Tab beats ipad far-far away 😀
Great product. Not even a year old and no ICS..

But of course you droid guys always consider a hacked ROM as proper manufacturer support, heck you even call it feature!
Happy rooting
LOL
the era of ipad is END…
and this’s the era of Galaxy Tab 7+
And the era of Samsung augering out your backside is just BEGINNING.
Enjoy the era of yearly $300+ upgrades
LOL
Take a long walk off a short pier, dickheads. The fishies’ll be feeding on ye and be spittin’ ye out as tripe.
I think Apple is faking us out and they are developing the Apple TV to be even more than it is now, maybe with apps and siri. Makes no sense to have a Apple TV set.
So what if Sir Jony has a 50″ TV set in his studio?
He wouldn’t be the first person to watch TV at work now would he…:)
Maybe its the only way to enjoy a Blu-Ray movie because Apple has decided in its infinite wisdom that it’s customers don’t want a BD drive in our Apple products?
Or worse still any DVD drive whatsoever? Another nail in the coffin for those of us who do video editing I fear…FCP anyone?
With SJ’s comment that he had ‘cracked it’ and someone popping into Sir Jony’a studio and seeing him watching the game on TV one can see how rumours might propagate! 🙂
The rest is purely media/analyst/rumour website driven with no word from those that really know.
Like everything with Apple we can only wait & see…
I want,
