“Speculation has been rife over when Apple Inc. will launch the next generation of its tablet device iPad3,” Focus Taiwan reports.
“A local Chinese-language newspaper reported Friday that iPad3 might be launched on Feb. 24 to mark the anniversary of the birth of Apple’s late co-founder Steve Jobs,” Focus Taiwan reports. “Citing sources close to Taiwanese makers in the iPad3 supply chain, the Economic Daily News said the gadget could be launched in mid-first quarter of next year or by the end of next March.”
Focus Taiwan reports, “The paper also said local iPad3 component makers need to keep working during the Lunar New Year holiday to meet the delivery deadline.”

MacDailyNews Take: We’ll be one of the first ones online to get our “tablet device iPad3” units.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Dan K.” for the heads up.]
Unless it was already planned to be released sometime very near his birthday, I doubt this is true. Apple generally doesn’t “scramble” to launch anything.
Maybe they will plan to announce it on feb 24th, and ship in march.
I’d rather they delay it and get it right, than push it out the door with problems.
Exactly. I can see a keynote announcement happening on his birthday, but not the actual launch.
Uhhhh, you’ll be in line behind me!
Yeah, but I will pre-order my two and be in the shorter line for people that plan ahead. Lots of fun!
I got the first iPad, the first iPhone and maybe the first AppleTV on their release days.
I sure will miss hearing “Just one more thing” from Steve. I wonder if they have video of Steve Jobs with the R&D versions of the next few products so he can share his vision for those products and devices.
I’ll order it online and be one of the lucky ones that gets it a day early.
Ip3 will be my first one. Can’t wait!
Fingers crossed for quad core A6.
I’m wishing for a quad core with a hemi, super fast.
“Hemi; for when you’re in a hurry…”
When Chrysler gets into the phone business, their’s will be the Hemi-roid.
iPad 3, WHENEVER it comes out, is eagerly anticipated. Unless it’s name will be iPad 2S and then the naysayers kick in. I too MDN will be among the first to order. My iPad first-gen is great but I notice the horsepower in it could be a little faster, as always happens once an OS is upgraded, in this case iOS. There hasn’t been a day since I got it mid-2010 that I haven’t used it – a lot! God Bless Steve Jobs, Apple and all the marvelous Apple devices that put a smile on my face every day.
Give me a break. Any reason to grasp at straws to come up with another rumor.
Forgive my grammar, it’s been a long day and it’s only noon 🙂
Exactly. Total bullshit. Something for fanboys to gush over.
Darn….my monitor has just developed the jips, I need to replace my MB Pro, get another airport express, the Nex 7 camera and and…now the iPad 3.
I think I’ll skip Christmas and carry on working ;/ )
Regardless of when it launches, the 3 is going to be HUGE for Apple. People who did not upgrade from the first one will jump in head first. Those wanting to know what the fuss is about will jump in head first. Those that want the newest and shiniest will jump in head first. And the retina display will bring in all the stragglers.
Ipad 3 may be the nail in the coffin for Android tabs.
Pure unmitigated bullshit. They didn’t delay a product launch THE WEEK JOBS DIED! Why the HELL would they risk a product launch to some arbitrary date? Jobs may be gone but this is still Apple, not some dipshit phone manufacturer with vapor ware promises and arbitrary product launches on incomplete devices.
I wish Apple offered a product subscription service. That would be really cool, especially if the products just arrived the day they were announced.
Yea, Tawan knows what they’re talking about. Fat chance!
I honestly don’t know how far they have to reach up into their behinds to pull this BS out. I mean, seriously, the iPad 3 will be out whenever Apple is ready to announce it ready for sale. Who cares about what some Taiwanese newspaper has to say about it?
More likely to be a new iMac, given that was the product that kick started Apple’s return. Not bad timing if Intel’s Ivy Bridge chips are ready by then. The current aluminium look is now 4.5 years old, time for a refresh as a tribute to Steve.
Seriously? Scrambling? If Apple were truly scrambling, would they have shut down the entire Cupertino campus (and all satellite corporate offices) for TWO WHOLE WEEKS over the holidays?
That bit about the working over the Lunar New year holiday? Doubt that. It’s a time when China comes close to shutting down and everyone goes home to their parents/family.
The iPad 3 will be 4% better than the iPad 2. Get the Macbook Pro Air’s out first.
