Apple releases Apple TV 4.4.4, tweaks iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S

“Apple on Thursday released a new software update for its Apple TV set-top box, and also issued a tweaked version of iOS 5.0.1 for iPhone 4S users,” AppleInsider reports.

“Details on the two software updates are not known, but users can update their Apple TV directly on the device to software version 4.4.4,” AppleInsider reports. “Also available for download is a new build of iOS 5.0.1, labeled 9A406, for the iPhone 4S. The new build is still identified as iOS 5.0.1.”

AppleInsider reports, “Build 9A406 was silently released by Apple on Thursday, and no details of any changes from the previous build were provided.”

  1. Apple please fix push notifications. Apps are randomly pushing/not pushing, and same with mail, ever since moving to iCloud. There are many of us out there suffering because of this. Please fix with 5.0.2! :.(

  2. I updated to 5.0.1 when it came out a couple weeks ago, and it’s build 9A405 (in Settings>General>About). So I don’t know how to update to the 9A406, other than doing a factory restore.

  3. Ok, this is a bit misleading. This is not a consumer release of an update by Apple. I don’t see this update available either checking from the iPhone 4S or tethering it to iTunes. I assume the release is the developers.

  4. You’ll need to do a factory restore in order to get iOS 5.0.1 (9A406).
According to this new support article, the revised version seems to fix a problem with in certain situations, iPhone 4S (GSM) may have difficulty recognizing a micro-SIM card, resulting in the following behaviors:
“Invalid SIM” or “No SIM Card installed” alert appears intermittently.
Status bar displays “No Service” or “Searching” in a location with good network coverage.
