“HTC plans to ‘reevaluate’ its buyout out S3 Graphics now that S3 has lost its ITC case against Apple, the smartphone designer said in a statement Wednesday,” Electronista reports.
“The brief response didn’t give a likelihood but indirectly admitted that HTC had bought S3 solely on the basis of its interim patent win over Apple, which was just overturned this week,” Electronista reports. “HTC had been prepared to spend $300 million.”

HTC and Samsung, the need to copy must run very deep. They can’t seem to face a world that says you can’t copy and reap the benefits.
HTC’s implementation of Android isn’t the utter and complete iOS rip off that Samsung’s is. Out of the two the need to copy is most definitely not with HTC.
Ouch. That $300,000,000 is going to take a lot of phone sales to off-set.
The corporate lawyers who endorsed the purchase have got to be feeling the heat.

Would it really get them that much leverage over AAPL in one market (a key market, admittedly — the US) — ?
I wonder what the kill fee is for this deal — certainly not something obscene like GOOG’s kill fee for MMI ($2.5B, I think). Paying the kill fee for HTC will be the best course for them (least amount of money wasted).
