Google TV gets porn channel, courtesy of Vivid Entertainment app

“Never mind the Internet – the TV was invented for pr0n. And now Google TV users can get their fictional passion fix, too, thanks to adult film studio Vivid Entertainment,” Robin Wauters reports for TechCrunch. “The latter, always aiming to please, is today giving birth to a dedicated Google TV app (NSFW) – or channel if you will.”

“According to Vivid, it will be the first app ‘designed to make sexually explicit content available through the new Google TV set top device,'” Wauters reports. “In high-definition, no less.”

Wauters reports, “Vivid for Google TV will be available at no additional cost to subscribers to Vivid.com, which currently offers a package of features such as streaming of Vivid’s adult movies, celebrity sex tapes, educational videos and more. Access to the site is restricted to persons over 18 years old.”

MacDailyNews Take: “You know, there’s a porn store for Android to go to. Anyone can download them, your kids can. That’s not a place we want to go. We’re not going to go there.” – Steve Jobs, April 8, 2010

“Folks who want porn can buy an Android phone.” – Steve Jobs, April 15, 2010

  1. To be fair, there are parental controls, so it is possible to limit certain channels for viewing.

Also, since it is American channel, it probably shows so-called “soft-porn”, where is actually nothing “explicit” — it is just word.

        1. If Vivid offers actual porn, then good for them and for these who watch it, but I personally do not know what they show. So I used the word “probably”.

Also, there are parental controls on GoogleTV, so I can not see how I wrong “on all counts”.

    1. the whole porn was the reason VHS won was BS. i doubt that millions of parents had huge stashes of VHS porn they would hide around the house to watch when the kids went to sleep

  2. Is this supposed to be a bad thing? If Apple comes out with an app-capable Apple TV, I wouldn’t want them restricting the content I can view. The iPhone is one thing, a television is another thing altogether.

If you don’t want any kids to see adult content, that’s what parental controls are for. You can lock anything down tight with a good set of parental controls.

  3. Not my thing but I’m glad no one is trying to play the ‘moral’ police and have a say in if it can be made or not.

I think there are some great advantages to Apple’s App Store but Apple controlling what can be effectively made for the platform is not one of them in my opinion,

  4. so because SJ opposed allowing porn apps on iOS devices that means it was the right decision?

it’s their store and they can do what they want, but competent adults can make their own decisions without Apple’s help.

  5. Google is finally innovating and making it a simple place for your kids to surf porn. I think they need to be commended on this as everyone knows its so hard to find online porn today. So to the great minds at google. Job well done. You have bested Steve Jobs at something and won the race to bring porn to a medium before Apple did. Oh wait they would not do that.
I think the former CEO might want to offer mop services as all the well run establishments have. This will prevent the sticky floors in the consumers homes. Yet another billable Google Service.
