Siri beta service goes spotty for some iPhone 4S users

“Reports circulated on Thursday afternoon that Apple’s ‘Siri’ voice-activated iPhone assistant is experiencing service outages for customers across the country,” Mike Isaac reports for Wired.

“Upon Apple’s service going down, Twitter exploded with messages from frustrated iPhone 4S users and lookers-on,” Isaac reports. “In’s San Francisco testing, the Siri service was spotty at best, functioning properly only intermittently. Still, others located in the Bay Area reported that the Siri service is functioning properly.”

Isaac reports, “Apple debuted the service last month with one major caveat: The company considers Siri a ‘beta”’ product, a fact which should be kept in mind if the service stumbles in its first few months.”

MacDailyNews Take: We didn’t experience any spottiness with Siri today or just now when we checked again. Did you?

  1. Mine worked for about one hour this morning. I am in the East Bay (San Francisco). However it hasn’t worked for the past several hours. I get an error message that it can’t connect to the network. I even reset my network settings and did a number of soft resets, but to no avail.

  2. Any new technology goes through an S curve of adoption. Because of Siri’s popularity, users already expect it to take it for granted, the way they take google search for granted.

There’s a sense that as soon as you get it, you rely on it, and expect it to just be there, as if it were a mature product.

The S curve is almost surpassed by a BACN curve. Viewed on a TOST graph, adjusted for PBAJ, adoption rates would be off the proverbial chart!

  3. Siri was a mess today. Worked a little this morning, then went down aroun 10 and stayed down until about 20 min ago. I spoke to apple at length, who said they were aware of it, and laid hopes on a Siri software update to be installed on their end in the next 2-3 weeks.

    Beta indeed.

  4. After two weeks of waiting, my iPhone 4S finally canures iphone has to offer. e yesterday.

Siri worked great for that afternoon. But today, it keeps saying it has trouble connecting to the network.

I hope they fix it soon. In the meantime, I guess not all is lost and I can still enjoy the other features iPhone 4S has to offer. It’s functioning better than my 3GS so, its great for now 🙂

  5. I had problems with Siri today (in Missouri), and this is not the first time. I could be wrong, but I thought maybe Apple had released the iPhone in a few more countries recently and its computers were overwhelmed with new users getting to know Siri.

… Which made me feel good, since I’m an AAPL investor!
