“Apple’s iTunes Match cloud-music feature seems to be inching closer to release: An option to enable the feature has now appeared on the second-generation Apple TV,” Dan Moren reports for Macworld.com.
“I tested on my own Apple TV and, sure enough, the option to Turn on iTunes Match showed up under a top-level Music menu—though I first had to navigate into Settings -> General and then back to the main menu before it appeared. For me, trying to enable iTunes Match yielded an error, saying that there was a problem trying to connect to iCloud. Only Apple TVs running version 4.4.2 of their software support the feature,” Moren reports.

MacDailyNews Take: We see the same on our Apple TV units, too.
first?
Why the question mark? Say it with confidence… FIRST! Shout it from the mountaintops.
The funny thing is that this post has more relevance to Apple (in first place among handset makers) than the usual political garbage we see here.
So many questions about iTunes matching. Why is it enabled on apple tv? Doesn’t apple tv just stream from my other devices, now it can download any of my purchased music from iTunes? What if I get iTunes Match, upgrade all of my library, then cancel iTunes Match?
Updated to iCloud with new me.com Email and using that as my Apple ID. Can’t download my passes for iPad. Can’t
update my apps on iPad. No history of past purchases
(some 2000+ songs). They all want my old Apple ID
which has disappeared on iTunes. HELP 🙁 🙁 🙁
This is more confusing than it should be but….
Use the Apple ID that you’ve previously purchased music/movies from in the “Store” setting. That is your primary ID.
Use the new ME iCloud address for everything else. Under the iCould setting, the “ME” account should reside for mail, contacts, etc.
Do the same on your home computer as well.
For Facetime and iMessages, use your old ID that had purchases as your main ID. iMessages then has option for “receive at”….you can add additonal email addresses…this you would use the same ID as your ME account.
Done.
The process is sort of un-Apple-like in that it is not entirely straightforward. But it works.
Thanks for your reply. However the old ID is not in
the “store” setting. Tried to reinstate my old ID but
iTunes would not accept it as it doesn’t have a capital
letter and it has 3 identical #s in a row which, under
new rules in iStore, is unacceptable. Oh, the pain.
Will take all my devices to the nearest Apple store
and let them figure it out.
On any iOS 5 device, go to Settings > Music. iTunes Match is the first option on there. Default is off.
Updated to the 10.5.1 beta 2 yesterday. iTunes Match worked well Enabled Match on the TV and it worked seamlessly. All is well thus far with all the albums and artwork being correct as well!
