New iPhone 4S and iPod touch SKUs appear in Apple’s inventory system

“As Apple’s October 4th event approaches, two of Apple’s announcements have been revealed in Apple’s internal inventory system,” Mark Gurman reports for 9 to 5 Mac.

“The first is a new iPod touch. Three new iPod touch models have appeared in the system with the codename N81A,” Gurman reports. “N81 is the codename for the fourth-generation black iPod touch, so the A likely represents the string of the three new white models.”

Gurman reports, “Even more interesting are the two new iPhone SKUs that have showed up in the system. The catch is that these two SKUs are actually marked as tweaked iPhone 4s.”

  1. I hope to God that it’s just not a minor refresh of the iPhone because I can see sales cratering. Apple has always been known for revolutionary devices so if it’s just a simple upgrade then the Jobsian magic must have been lost in the reshuffle.

    1. Does anybody thinks that iPhone need a new version? I mean, is there a competitive phone out there for the iPhone 4? Even the 3Gs still ahead of most of the competitors.
An iPhone 4Gs will be enough, but I would like also a iPhone 5.

      1. Yes. I need a better camera with 15x optical zoom, auto locate feature (aka Clapper Find), a 3 day constant use battery, and a Taser. THEN the iPhone will be complete.

Until I decide what I want next.

  2. If the form factor does not change, but the guts are significantly different, ie, 8mp camera,. A5 Processor, larger screen, more memory, etc that have been touted as its features, does it really need to have a difference case design, and a new number to have it be w winner?

    1. Form is mos-def on my list of wants.
I didn’t upgrade to a 3GS from my 3G for the same reason. I wanted something different. The iPhone 4 has been great, but it’s a 32gig brick in my hip pocket and it’s honestly its kinda dated to me now. To quote J.Morrison:

“We want the world and we want it now”

    2. You can’t have a larger screen in the same form factor.

The iPhone 4s may get a faster processor and a few other tweaks, but the better camera, larger screen, etc. will be reserved for the iPhone 5. Possibly LTE, although that would be a bit surprising unless Apple has managed to secure the first batches of newer, lower power LTE chips.

Apple didn’t delay the iPhone refresh date 3 months just to tweak the iPhone 4.

  3. Let’s not forget that with a form factor change comes new cases and other hardware accessories, all of which pay Apple fees for the “Made for iPhone” marketing rights and tech specs. A new iPhone purchase usually means new case(s) and other accessories as well.

  4. I’m betting this iPhone 4S is going to be the new $49 phone taking the place of the current $49 3GS when the iPhone 5 comes out. It will probably only have 8-16 gigs of memory just like the current $49 3GS.

  5. This is just intentional disinformation. Apple paid over a billion dollars for the license to use the polymer metal, and I’m betting they’re going to use it in just a few days. Feel free to iCal me. iPhone 5, metal back, thinner, better, bigger screen, better camera, voice control, iOS 5, bad ass.

  6. Better be iPhone 5, Apple at this point in the game can’t afford not to as competition looms….. everybody’s watching Apple’s event Oct.4…… tweaked iPhone 4 won’t cut it………
