Apple questions timing of Verizon’s proposed amicus brief in Samsung case

“On Friday, the largest U.S. wireless carrier, Verizon, asked a federal court for permission to file an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief in support of Samsung against Apple, and provided its proposed brief at the same time,” Florian Mueller reports for FOSS Patents.

“On Tuesday, Apple asked the court to throw out the proposed brief or alternatively let Apple respond by a deadline that minimizes disruption of the process,” Mueller reports. “At this stage, Apple doesn’t address the substance of Verizon’s brief. In my view, that brief is weak and flawed, and I’m sure that Apple has no shortage of ideas for how to respond to the content of that brief, but for now this is just a proposed brief and the first question is whether the court will let Verizon intervene at all.”

    1. Apple does not need Verizon. With it’s enormous cash reserve, it can go to war with anybody. The iPhone 4 is still the best-selling phone out there, and the US market is not the most important for Apple.

      1. Well, VZ must have gotten some pressure somewhere to even try to pick sides… it’s idiotic on their part. They should remain neutral.

Apple will just keep going… it’s done well considering all the Android talk… Apple has yet to jump on Sprint (hopefully soon) and T-Mobile…

      1. Pulling an iPhone out of his ass is “funnier” than Verizon not getting the new iPhone? I don’t think so. What may be “funnier” is if you tried to walk without dragging your knuckles on the ground. Wait, no. Funnier isn’t the word for that… Impossible! That’s the word. Oh, and your proctologist called, they found your fathers missing wrist watch. No word on your phone though.

  1. I can honestly say that I have had an iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4. I also have an iMac an iPod and several other Apple products because APPLE makes great products but all you people on here make me embarrassed I own Apple products. Who cares what Verizon has to say? Maybe a bunch of cry babies do. Just enjoy your phone and shut the hell up. What do you have to prove?

    1. AG,
Simply listing a string of equipment proves nothing (actually less than nothing as it is a common tactic of the sad little apple hating trolls who seem to delight in posting in an apple news forum) Your constant bashing, and combative attitude however speaks volumes.

The gist of what I am saying here is that if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck….

    2. I am not understanding where you have popped up from. But, you are on an Apple fan site. This is what it is. Why do you keep regurgitating your same line post after post. Just simply go away. You aren’t going to convince any of us to change our ways. If you love Apple as you propose, why not spend your efforts over at Engadget trying to get fandroids not to hate. We don’t need convincing of our love for Apple (ON AN APPLE FAN SITE).

Engadget is the place of trolls. Get over there quick!

  2. @App Geek
I care what Verizon does if it is designed to support another party and opposed to Apple’s assertion of IP rights in a lawsuit.

If you allow yourself to become embarrassed by that, so be it.
Given where you head is, no one will see your red face!

  3. Verizon is walking a pretty fine line here. The facts are that Apple is not immediately jumping on the 4G bandwagon because the system just isn’t built out enough by the carriers. Verizon wants to sell what 4G services they have, and Samsung, HTC and other Android handset makers are producing the only 4G phones. Verizon is scared shitless that they are going to lose the ability to sell 4G phones if injunctions against Samsung and HTC come down via ongoing lawsuits. You can bet this is frosting their relationship with Cupertino. Verizon made a mistake wedging themselves into this fight. One day, some way, Apple is going to make Verizon pay for their meddling.

    1. Version doesn’t even seem to remember their own history. Back when Apple was first creating the iPhone they approached Verison before AT&T but Verison wanted to control all of it so Apple went with AT&T instead and Verison lost a lot of customers.
I think Verison would really rather Apple went away, then they could continue to sell crappy Android phones unmolested.

      1. Not only that, but remember how the whole panorama used to be before the iPhone. Verizon lost control regardless, then they kicked them selves for not believing it would happen and that the iPhone was the one to bring those changes. I agree, of all the carriers, Verizon has been the most affected by the iPhone, and now, it’s not aligned with there future business plans.

  4. Does anyone know how much apple store employees make a year? I’m sure it’s alot, I bet they have the best benefits of any company , with apple being the most valuable company in the world. Anyone know?

    1. Uh hank, I hate to break it to you, but likely not. Retail clerks are minimally skilled employees, therefore tend to make toward the lower end of the income scale. (regardless of the size of the company)
So, stay in school there little kipper. Learn and hone your craft, become an artist, engineer, programmer or manager. Skills are the path to a better paying job. Aspiring to be a retail clerk (though admittedly better an apple store than Walmart) is not a optimal career path (money wise).

      1. This is essentially correct. When my wife worked as a specialist I think the 25% discount on employee purchases was more generously administered. There is also a 401k, bonuses, and a stock plan. Under the stock plan my wife was able to buy AAPL at its lowest price over the last 6 (?) months once a year in about September, meaning, she was able to pick up shares at perhaps 25% under their current price. The shares then had to be held a minimum amount of time.

Apple benefits and pay was pretty good for retail work, but not very good compared to developers and engineers.
