“There are many ways to resale your used iPhone 4 to make some extra cash, and we’ll show you everything you need to know to get your iPhone ready for its new owner,” Alex Heath reports for iDownloadBlog.
How to get your iPhone 4 ready for resale:
1: Backup and Restore
2: Take Care of Your SIM Card
3: Clean Your iPhone
4: Get Your Packaging Together
Heath reports, “If you want to unlock your iPhone before you resale, then see our unlock page to learn more. Unlocked iPhones can typically sell for $100 more on sites like Craigslist. Selling a jailbroken iPhone 4 could also result in a higher resale value. If you’ve got an untethered jailbreak on iOS 4.3.3, then you may want to consider keeping that jailbreak as added value. Things can get hairy when you’re trying to sell a jailbroken, unlocked iPhone on the used market, so consider that as an option if you’re comfortable with what you’re doing.”

Man, the first thing I did upon buying my iPhone 4 was to throw away the packaging, straight in the trash bin. I was so excited getting my hands on that beautiful piece of tech that I forgot to keep the box it came in. I don’t have any plans right now to replace my iPhone 4 with a 5 so I’ll keep it a little longer yet for when my contract expires like in nine months or so. By that time I think my iPhone will be worth 10 cents to the dollar so yeah, whether I saved the original packaging it came in or not is moot. I might wrap it in a gift wrap and give it to a relative of mine or keep it to play games on.
I don’t know when was the last time you checked, but 2- to 3-year old iPhones continue to fetch good money on eBay; usually more than enough to cover the upfront price of the newer model ($200+). If it is well kept, without scratches or other physical damage, it goes even higher.
I sold my 3G — NOT the 3GS — for $170 on Craigslist right after the 4 was released. I sold my friend’s iPhone, the first model, no less, for &140 at the same time. They were clean, came with ALL original packaging, and were NOT jailbroken or unlocked. It’s a myth that doing so adds value, because the vast majority of owners will not mess with them. Just advertise the device as “unhacked.”
As for the packaging, it adds significant value and appeal. There are people who sell the packaging only for just this reason.
Could some one please post the link to Apple’s official announcement of the October event?
just my $0.02
It’s rumor and not official. Therefore there is no official announcement from Apple.
I’ve been looking forward to buying a 5 for months
but with the way the market is acting, I’m getting spooked to spend ANY extra money or extend a contract.
Let’s hope it calms down….for a change.
The casino is still open… But the house is bankrupt. Don’t plan on stability. The game continues.
Do people really need this?
It’s a very simple matter to restore to factory and remove a SIM card…
Thinking of selling my iPhone 4 The button is getting a little unresponsive. It’s 9 months old. Does Apple have some type of test to determine if phone can be replaced or is it just up to some Apple Genius? P
