“With Carol Bartz out at Yahoo!, the list of CEOs on the brink shrinks to four,” Scott Moritz writes for TheStreet.
“Bartz’s nearly three year run as Yahoo! chief came to an end Tuesday when she received a call from Yahoo! chairman Roy Bostock, who apparently told her it was time for a change,” Moritz writes. “But Bartz isn’t alone… Here are four other tech CEOs in the hot seat who may get a similar call from their boards. The ranking is in order of stock declines for the year.”
4. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer (Microsoft is down 8% so far this year.)
3. Cisco CEO John Chambers (Cisco is down 24% this year.)
2. HP CEO Leo Apotheker (HP is down 44% this year.)
1. RIM half-CEOs Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis (RIM has dropped 46% this year so far.)

MacDailyNews Take: Leave Ballmer alone! He just needs more time to implement his strategy, which we like. We like it a lot. Microsoft shareholders and board members should remain catatonic and let Ballmer run the show for as long as it takes!
Feel that noose tightening a little bit there, eh, Ballmy?
Come on what are you talking about? Windows 8 will be such a smash hit. Ballmer needs to stay on at Microsoft for as long as it takes.
Dig that ker-azy ribbon interface fillin’ up de screen. It’s not just a UI but a FUI.
that’s 5 CEO’s.
Naw, it’s only four. Two halves equals a hole.
+1
You have two missing s’s somewhere.
I should’ve said, “equals an a-hole?”
Actually it is six CEOs if you are measuring by volume. Ballmer counts for at least two.
“Leave Ballmer alone! He just needs more time to implement his strategy, which we like. We like it a lot.”
The damage, irreversible as it is, has been done. Ballmer’s contribution to Apple’s success is complete. There is nothing left to wait for, except the sound of a falling tree.
How they fall:
Chambers was once viewed as a genius, and it’s hard not to like the man on a personal level, but Cisco’s problem seem to be growing.
I heard that Steve Balmer has decided to “let it all hang out” (a disgusting thought, actually) and rebrand Microsoft’s cloud initiative “Stupidity Plus”, a name that should resonate with Microsoft customers worldwide.
it seems that MS cloud service will be hosting iCloud. Which is funny because “Azure” is the color of a cloudless sky!
Mike and Steve may they never leave – Zune Ballmer and Mike Ditty Dell are the best two CEOs for the job
Good point – where’s Mikey Dell on this list?
Considering what Scott Moritz has written in the past, especially about Apple, why is his opinion given any more weight than the Enderle Group’s dog?
Schadenfreude.
I think MDN needs to bust out the iCal and make with Moritz’s email address so we can bombard him with “so explain this moronic, off-base, and proven to be completely incorrect” emails.

That never gets old. . . Leave Uncle Fester alone!
We *love* Ballmer’s strategy! Come on, Ballmer, give us a Zune II. While you are at it, why not try designing a Microsoft TV?
They don’t have to design a Microsoft TV. They can move on to designing the Microsoft TV 2 already, now that they know how it’s done.
I wonder if they’d call it MTV2?
