“While we’ve seen a number of possible ‘iPhone 4S’ parts based on the iPhone 4 design in recent weeks, the design of the iPhone 5 has remained unclear with little concrete evidence of the device’s design having yet surfaced,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.

“By late July, a purported design document for the iPhone 5 surfaced and began to make its way to third-party case manufacturers, who apparently placed enough faith in its accuracy to begin making cases based on the design,” Slivka reports. “Based on that same design document, we commissioned a set of renderings in an attempt to get an idea of what the iPhone 5 might look like.”

I hope it’s not as big as the case manufacturers suggest.
I have hands like that poor guy on the Burger King commercials for the Double Whopper, and my thumb already has to stretch uncomfortably across the iPhone 4 when I’m using it one- handed.
The measurements provided by their designer seem okay, since the phone only widens slightly.
I’m all honesty, I’m content with the screen size on the iPhone 4, and all I’d like to see is a shrinking of the borders around it to produce a smaller phone.
I’m also not a fan of the taper. I use my phone as a clock when I’m at home, and standing it on its side is easy enough now because it’s flat. Wouldn’t do to have a rounded, tapered design…
I’m surprised nobody is talking about the possibility of two iPhone models. One being the current size, and the other being larger.
The “current size” one being the cheaper, contract-free iPhone that’ll wipe out Android from the face of the Earth!
All parts point to same screen size. Too bad. The iPhone 5 is just and upgraded 4.
Huh? Where’d you get that! The article, if it is to be believed, suggests that in fact the form-factor will be modified, and have at least a slightly larger, possibly significantly larger, screen.
What exactly points to it just being a minor upgrade? Are we reading the same article?
Too big for an iPhone. Maybe the case is for the next iPod Touch.
And why the freaking hell would their screen sizes differ?
You people are too scared of a larger screen. Personally I would find it awesome. Want to know of a phone that REALLY has an oversized screen? The HTC Titan’s measure 4.7″!
Mine measures 7 inchs
You’ve got the ruler flipped around. That’s millimeters you’re reading… 😛
so does anyone have any clue when does the iphone5/4s come to stores or released?
The depth tapering from .27″ at the top to .2″ at the bottom seems uncharacteristic of Apple’s iPhone designs. It is quite an anomaly, more so even than it seems at first. Device design symmetry has come to be a given. Thus leaves me very dubious, but not completely ruling it out as a possibility.
An overall larger size, while interesting and tempting perhaps may also be negatively received. The size of the iPhone 4 is really good all around. Anyone can speculate. I’m eligible for an upgrade, so I am waiting expectantly for my new phone…
I would prefer it not be tapered. I use my iPhone often as a level and it is hard for me to see how the many apps that use level would work. I like the iPhone 4 design, but I like the feel of the 3GS shape better. I think if the 5 is even thinner than the 4 it will be uncomfortable to hold as a phone. Just me, I will get a 5 day one no matter what.
I’ve never been a fan of the square brick design. My old 3GS feels better in my and and pocket. I hope they bring the smooth tapered design back…and with a back that isn’t glass. A nice aluminum or carbon fiber back would be much more practical for a phone.
Whatever it is, I’m getting one.
YES! Just what I wanted!
I think Apple puts this out there for men and releases that “iPhone 4S” for ladies and nancies who can’t handle a larger device. Unfortunately I fear the next iPod touch will be based on the 4S rather than the iPhone 5.
Hey, help me out: I keep thinking that new screen dimensions — a first — would have a fairly major impact on look and performance of current and future apps. Wouldn’t a ton of developers know already if such a change in dimensions were coming in mere weeks? If not, wouldn’t there be some chaos to follow deployment when app screens were stretched out of shape? I’m confused.
HOW so APPLE stops Samsung…
BUT then makes a iPONE 5 basically looking like the
GALLAXY S – same SIZE and a SQUARE home button.
COME ON HERE !!!!
How is .2″ MUCH larger?
The perfect dimensions for the iPhone are the following:
5H X 3W X 4D period!
