“Apple Inc, Nokia and Qualcomm Inc are among several telecom and technology companies weighing bids for InterDigital Inc, which specializes in wireless communications technologies, sources familiar with the situation said,” Nadia Damouni reports for Reuters.
“InterDigital is up for sale and is forging ahead with its auction despite a setback on Monday when Google Inc, one of the key potential bidders, struck another deal,” Damouni reports. “Google agreed to buy Motorola Mobility Holdings for $12.5 billion. That led to a 23 percent drop in InterDigital’s shares on Monday.

And now we’re seeing one of the big reasons for Apple’s “war chest.” not many companies can bid whatever it wants on these patent collections and pay cash.
Let’s hope that if Apple is bidding the ante just went down considerably.
Maybe Google can continue to bid, say, in imaginary numbers!! (Sq. Root of -1, anyone?)
