Apple hikes 2H11 iPhone orders to over 56 million units

“Apple has upward adjusted the total order volume for iPhones, consisting of iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4 CDMA and iPhone 5, for the second half of 2011 by 12-13%, from 50 million units originally estimated at the end of the second quarter of 2011 to more than 56 million units,” Yenting Chen and Adam Hwang report for DigiTimes. “Phone 5 will account for 25.5-26 million units, according to Taiwan-based supply chain makers.”

Chen and Hwang report, “Total shipments iPhones in 2011 will reach 95 million units, the sources noted.”

  1. The article appears to be reporting on something that is actually factual. But it’s easy to miss the punch line at the end, “the sources said”. So it’s just more rumor.

  2. More groundless rumors. Can suppliers even build that many iPhone 5s in such a short time? It sure is weird why they have to float these sort of numbers. Demand will be high, no doubt, but just pulling large numbers out of thin air are are pretty useless to anyone. It only matters to Wall Street when people actually buy the iPhones and even then I’m sure WS will fail to be impressed. Apple shares will continue to lag well behind the median target price and will continually struggle to hold above $400 a share.
