Saudi Prince Alwaleed: Apple ‘will survive’ without Steve Jobs

“Apple Inc. ‘will survive’ without Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave since January, Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al Saud said in a CNN interview,” Adam Satariano reports for Bloomberg.

“Apple is a ‘role model’ for U.S. businesses and the company’s board clearly has been discussing succession, Alwaleed said on Piers Morgan Tonight,” Satariano reports. “‘No company should depend on one person,’ said Alwaleed, the nephew of the Saudi monarch. ‘I hope that he will continue there as long as possible but nevertheless plans have to be put in motion.'”

Satariano reports, “Alwaleed, ranked the richest Arab businessman by Arabian Business magazine for seven consecutive years, built his fortune by investing in brand-name companies he considered undervalued, including Apple, News Corp. and Time Warner Inc.”

  1. Well, just because Apple made you rich and you have more luck than brains, your nothingness, doesn’t make you an authority especially since you’ve been reported to manipulate the stock by trickle spray selling, to start selloffs and then buy back in to ride the slingshot and profit.

    1. Apple will survive grow even bigger and expand without jobs for sure, because Jobs hand picked a management and staff that are like and kind and have proven it by being an integral part of Apple’ s current success.

We dont need no bogus Apple stock manipulating prince to tell is that.

    2. I’m sorry but if this guy is manipulating stocks he not only has brains, he has f*cking balls.

He only stated the obvious and he basically gave the company a compliment!

I’m sure any random poster on this site has a far larger business acumen than this guy and he might be such a dunce that he is wrong and Apple is totally f*cking doomed without Steve Jobs. We’ll all lose our asses when the stock gets de-listed as it drops below $5 a share! 😉

      1. You have no idea who this guy is do you? I first read about him in 1997 when he made a 100 mill$ investment in AAPL. He is one of the biggest, if not the THE biggest middle eastern investor in US stocks. There’s no luck to it. He’s a pro.

Of course that he is middle eastern makes you immediately suspicious of him and his knowledge invalid, right?

        1. This is the same guy that offered New York City $10 million after the 9/11 attacks, adding it was US foreign policy that brought on such an attack. Mayor Giuliani justly returned the check telling Alwaleed to, in effect, get stuffed.

That he’s financially successful (being closely tied to the Royal Family and its oil wealth certainly helped) doesn’t mean he isn’t a low-life.

        2. My lord the people on this site need to learn how to detect sarcasm.

I’m not suspicious of the guy, I know his history, I was screwing with the poster who I was replying to!

      1. Exactly. Breeze is actually saying the same thing as the prince said in a tone like he didn’t agree. In other word, Breeze did not add any information whatsoever other than what the prince have said. Hmm.. which one is nothing then??

      2. Calling him “nothingness” is to say his position in life is solely due to the luck of who his parents are, and not so much what he did.

Kind of like Steve Ballmer’s freshman roommate assignment.

  2. Wonder how? I remember jobs got fired from apple once during the company’s early years and when he left, microsoft ruled. Now that jobs is here, apple rules. So you be the judge, will apple do as well as it is doing without Job’s leadership?

Again this kind of makes the board and anyone who is ok with jobs going bye-bye seem kind of greedy. I will never understand these things 🙂

  3. whole point of this story is to make a liar out of Steve Jobs. This is to contradict the hogwash statement from jobs regarding BODs meeting secretly to find a replacement. Of course the board discusses succession. Every board does, but the hogwash of a story was that it was being done surreptitiously.

Mark my words they will rebut Jobs using alwaleeds statements twisted out of context. Funny that here, bloomberg make big alwaleeds opinion and yet, in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, alwaleeds claim that OPEC had nothing to do with the price of oil and that it was/is being manipulated at the cesspools ICE and CME was/is buried.

    1. It was known that Apple readied succession plan already few years ago.

But, of course, it was under Jobs’ guidance.

So the report about any ‘secret meetings’ could very well be ‘hogwash’. No point of any secrecy if Apple previously officially confirmed that there is succession plan.

More importantly, new Apple’s head, most probably, will come from Apple itself — since people there could already have the culture and discipline that Jobs wishes.

Not to say that this will guarantee success in the *long* run, since none of Apple’s top managers who could become CEO might turn out to be actually comparable to Jobs in his radicalism about moving forward.

  4. the only reason apple will survive without jobs is because they are killing their competition and making it imposible for any to rise in the future. Sooner or later, apple will have little to no competition that a good leader doesn’t matter anymore. Get complete imbasil to lead the businsess and it will still be number one because your precious pattents are here to protect you.

What the recent patents really did was made it illegal for apple to have competitors.

    1. Well then that sucks for Apple cause at some point the US justice system will plow them through years of anti-trust and effectively cut the companies balls clean off. You can only succeed in this company to a certain degree, once you cross the line you become a target of the government.

Just ask Standard Oil, AT&T and MS how well it works out.

Antitrust is really what turned the tide on MS’s long march to dominance, maybe not immediately or in obvious ways but ask anyone who works there how things were after that ordeal was done. It killed a lot of the soul and drive everyone had.

  5. I watched Charlie Rose interview the Prince (as he’s called) on television and he seemed like a thoroughly nice guy.

I don’t want to think of a day when Steve Jobs is not at the helm of Apple – we’ll all be the worse for it I”m sure – so I won’t elaborate any more on this subject.

It’s a shame about the MacBook though. I think it’s a good entry level notebook for Apple. They could have dropped the price to $800 and refreshed the line to the new Sandy Bridge processors. I think that would have attracted a great many buyers to Apple computers. The Air although nice is somewhat of an overkill for students. $800 is a nice price point I think for people to flock to the notebook.

  6. This so-called prince is the perfect example of a useless lying ass dog undemocratic clown. His country depends on a monarch and oil. We don’t need a slob camel jockey giving us advice any time.

Carry your ass you silver spoon fed morin.

    1. Damn right! This sand n*gg*r knows nothing! His foolish monarchy is nothing compared to the powerful USA which is about to default on its debt and have its credit rating dropped for the first time in its history!

Who is this IDIOT to tell us anything man!

    2. I’ll bet he never rode a camel in his life. Probably gets transported everywhere he goes in a chauffeur-driven Bentley or Rolls ever since he was born.

  7. I think this so called prince should keep his opinions to himself. He is not aware of how apple operates, he is unaware of what kinds of things jobs contributes to the business. All he knows is that apple is number one. He does not know how they got there and who excactly lead them there.

    1. Don’t be as ass. Alwaleed bought MILLIONS of Apple shares in the 1990s when it was in the dumps. It was a major vote of confidence and as one of the single biggest shareholders, Alwaleed has been invited by Jobs in the past for private discussions about the company.

And before you get on your hate brigade, all Alwaleed is saying is that Steve Jobs’s greatest product is Apple Inc itself. In the last 10 years, Jobs has been building Apple to be a self- perpetuating entity long after he’s gone. The sooner people realize this, the sooner we can escape this ridiculous roller ride of Apple stock dropping 20% because Steve Jobs sneezes.

Google “Apple University” and educate yourself before confirming you are a fool.

    2. Not trying to be a smartass but how do you know what he does know and doesn’t know. I mean he is a very large investor in AAPL I would think he know just a little bit about AAPL. I believe at last check that he owns 5% AAPL stock which is a lot.

    3. And how the hell do YOU know that ? Not defending him but you people speak as if you personally know “him” or the facts. Gimme a break, get off your high horse. You ALL are just jealous thye weren’t interviewing YOU in that seat with all this higher then thou BS !!!

  8. never underestimate the power of a great leader. Jobs is the spirit of Apple incarnate. Surviving is a broad term and even Gil managed to ensure Apples survival. No one can predict the future but one can say with certainty that an organisation with out a great leader will neither attain nor retain greatness. Jobs’ greatest product is Apple and maybe grooming iSteve2 would be his greatest legacy.

    1. You really have no idea who this guy is do you? This ‘dick-head’ as you call him, made a 115 million dollar investment in AAPl in 1997. He is one of the middle east’s leading investors. He knows what he’s doing. Educate yourself before shooting off at the mouth and making yourself look like an ass.

  9. Perhaps the prince should focus on allowing Saudi women fundamental freedoms.
Hopefully the “Arab Spring” will finally arrive in saudy dudy clown land

  10. The guys a saudi prince. He was born with a gold rolls up his *ss so there is no need to pretend like he built a fortune or that he is particurlarly insightful.

How is this. No country should depend on a bunch of inbred scum to survive.

    1. Thats right! They should elect their Inbred Scum like everyone else! Wow! I’ve never seen such race and culture hatred in a mac forum before! I feel ashamed from just reading this!

        1. True, I withdraw the ‘race’ statement with apologies… that was some other posters above. The Saudi CULTURE is based on a monarchy though and insulting it IS insulting the culture. Don’t you think applying OUR values to another culture is a little arrogant on our part? In any case, my reply was a little harsher sounding that I wanted it. Sorry about that. And off topic too. (shame on me!)

  11. “Apple is a ‘role model’ for U.S. businesses”

    Damned right!

But planning on Steve Jobs’ imminent demise is more than a little MORBID. WTF is it with these vultures? STFU and celebrate that Steve Jobs continues to be alive and, believe it or not, WELL. 😛
