Apple’s OS X Lion, new Macs coming next week?

“There have been expectations that Apple could release OS X Lion this week, potentially as early as tomorrow (July 14th),” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors.

“A few doubts, however, have been introduced in the past couple of days,” Kim reports. “LoopInsight’s Jim Dalrymple tweeted this evening that he hopes ‘you guys don’t lose too much sleep waiting for the new Macs and Lion tomorrow :),’ suggesting that release won’t happen on Thursday. Dalrymple’s been known to have some inside Apple contacts in the past.”

MacDailyNews Take: If next week’s the week, it’ll be a very busy one with Apple due to post Q311 earnings and hold their quarterly conference call with analysts on Tuesday, July 19th. Maybe the following week instead?

  1. Tuesday would be a good bet, but maybe over the weekend. The ISP load of a significant fraction of 54 million users trying to download a multi- GB OS is going to tax the net in many areas.

  3. Personally, I’d like to see another GM build put out. Over at the MacRumors forums, developers are saying that the current GM still has some annoying bugs – nothing show-stopping, but still.

New GM build tomorrow with release next Friday?

  4. Apple won’t release Lion on a this Friday or any other weekend because of the current format the OS is in. As Lion has to be downloaded Apple needs to release on a weekday to make sure their servers don’t crash or service providers won’t run into any issues. If tons of people are going to be downloading a rather large file that is going to put a major strain on networks. Yes, your hardcore Apple fans will download it the day it comes out….however, most people will download it on a weekend at home when they can. As well, most people won’t download it until reviews start coming in and most business people won’t download mid week because they are doing projects and won’t upgrade till they are done with them in case the OS has issues. Apple has to set it up to allow a flow of people to download this OS instead of a mad rush. Doing that on a weekday will allow this…….Hardcore fans the first few days and the average consumer the tail-end of the week and weekend.

  5. As I’ve been saying all along, probably during the last few days of July. We’ll probably hear about another GM candidate later today or tomorrow. If all the “not minor” bugs are gone, THEN maybe next week will get the official release.
