Tablet display deliveries suggest big iPad delivery spike

“Apple is facing the mother of all backlogs with the iPad 2, yet still producing enough tablets to be a major player in the tablet display market,” Kelly Hodgkins reports for TUAW.

“Analysis released by Displaybank suggests Apple was responsible for the lion’s share of 9.7-inch displays shipped in May,” Hodgkins reports. “Apple’s two LCD suppliers, LG and Samsung, were responsible for 4.5 million of the 5.38 million tablet displays that flew off the production line in May. Most of these 9.7-inch displays were destined for the iPad as relatively few competing tablets use the 9.7-inch size.”

      1. Clearly you’re just ignorant to the fact that I recieved 5 iPad’s and every one of them were defective models or you’re just ignorant all together about everything so troll somewhere else that cares what you think.

    1. hey azianrolla, just post the serial numbers of those 5 iPads and I will believe you. Clearly your mommy will have kept all the receipts so get them from her and put ’em up here. Then maybe someone from Apple could verify them for us. Then and only then will any of us believe you.

I can only find the four right now but ill find the last serial # because the box is around here somewhere. All ya’ll not believing me MUST be APPLE FANBOYS because it hasn’t happened to you or whatnot. ALL of the iPad 2’s that follow the serial #’s ALL HAD BACKLIGHT BLEED. I repeat, ALL of the iPad 2’s that follow the serial #’s ALL HAD BACKLIGHT BLEED!

      2. Clearly you have serious “mommy” issues or you’re just ignorant to the fact that I recieved 5 iPad’s and every one of them were defective models or you’re just ignorant all together about everything so troll somewhere else that cares what you think.

    2. @ azianrolla
We’ve bought DOZENS of iPad 2s and have not had to return a single one for any sort of defect. These iPads are used by careless students, technicians and (worse of all) by us clumsy faculty. I must agree with the esteemed “joe” who eloquently said: “Cough, cough….bullshit…cough, cough”

    3. I call your BS and raise:

I think, at this time, Apple has a return rate of approx. 90% on the iPad 2.
Not that anyone has EVER seen any iPad2 problems, but if we going for the BULLSHIT effect, I say it 90%!
Ah, the hell with it – all ipad2’s have been returned, and Apple is denying it!
The stock is actually at $2.50 and they have been bribing Nasdaq to cover it up!

      1. My ipad2 was replaced at the Apple store due to light leakage. So it’s not some urban legend. I had one of two iPod Touch’s replaced because it simply froze and could not be fixed ( by Apple). Having said that, I am pleased as punch with almost all my hundreds of purchases in more than 25 years from Apple. It’s a electronic device. Sometimes they fail. But not too often if it has the Apple logo on it. Just imagine what it would have been like if Dell or HP had made all the things I bought over the years? Geez!

    4. I’m sorry for not replying back sooner everyone. If anybody wants to see my evidence of the DEFECTIVE iPad’s because of backlight bleed, I will gladly show you. Regards

      1. Good to read, but the article is wrong about Samsung; they do not have license for IPS technology from Hitachi Display.

Samsung produces only regular TN, small amount of SAMOLED+ and small amount of 8.9/10.1 PLS matrices for their Galsxy Tab line.

Chinmei Innolux is the second supplier of IPS for Apple since last year (contrary to recent reports).

        1. Samsung only does small number of 9.7 panels — TN, not IPS — for HP TouchPad and the likes.

As to iPad 2 sales, Apple said they sold this quarter over 6 million units to 6th June. For full quarter, 7-8 (9) million sales level expected.

  1. Uh, thanks Captain Obvious! Since ” relatively few competing tablets use the 9.7-inch size”, I guess that would make Apple the only one who orders many 9.7-inch screens then, eh? Easy to dominate the market for 9.7-inch screens when no one else uses them.

  2. Thank heavens that iPad delivery spike doesn’t mean anything to Wall Street. Wall Street doesn’t care how many iDevices are being sold. Apple is still the most shortable stock on the planet. If Apple sells 20 million iPads in this quarter, I’ll still be able to short the stock down to $310. Apple stock falling below it’s 500 day moving average was like knocking over a house of cards with a bulldozer. A piece of cake.

Apple is the famous Rodney Dangerfield of Wall Street. “I’m Apple and I get no respect. Take my shorts, please!” Daa-bumm….

I’ve never seen a company sell so much stuff and make so much money yet continue to sink further and further into the muck with all the rest of the money-losing companies. Shorting Apple could become America’s favorite pastime, second only to shorting RIM is for Canucks.

    1. It’s a slam dunk. There are virtually no worries about Apple so it is a sure bet the stock can go up anytime the market wants it too.
It’s a great scam for those in the know. I just don’t think it serves the original purpose and shorting has just become another way to manipulate the game.

    1. Fridays have been rough for quite a while. Awful lot of manipulation from the big boys. Not much you can do but hang on and buy more as it tanks if you can. Or if you know how to use options do like the big boys and short it. But be very careful. Going long is one thing shorting a stock is another. And much tougher to do. Ask all the geniuses that shorted RIMM (until recently) because they got their lunch handed to them regularly. NFLX is the ultimate ball buster for those trying to short a stock. I tried it once and got my ass kicked. In the money calls have been much kinder to me since then. But I do wonder if iCloud will ultimately give NFLX a tough time? I have stayed away from RIMM recently. Although I would have done better than I have with AAPL. We need a long run in AAPL.

  3. “… LG and Samsung, were responsible for 4.5 million of the 5.38 million tablet displays that flew off the production line in May.”

and right on to store shelves where they (for the most part) have been sitting ever since.

  4. I have some leaking on all 3 iMac s I own and 1 of 2 iPad 1s. Big deal, light leaking is a whiners issue for anal people. Get over it , you probably whine for months about a simple door ding on your car door.

  5. “Apple is facing the mother of all backlogs with the iPad 2, yet still producing enough tablets to be a major player in the tablet display market,” Kelly Hodgkins reports for TUAW.”

This sounds backwards to me. To correct the logic, I suggest:

“Apple is facing the mother of all backlogs with the iPad 2, BECAUSE Apple is a major player in the tablet dispay market. THE major player. Their suppliers can’t keep up because Apple sells EVERY iPad made.”
