    1. I have a 2011 MBP but I’ve never encountered a wake from sleep problem even before the software update. In fact I’ve always had it behave normally whenever I put it to sleep either by closing the lid or issuing a sleep command from the power button or Apple logo on the menu bar. Upon waking either by opening the lid or pushing the power button or pressing any key it’s always come out of sleep without any hiccups. All my open applications are as they were before putting the MBP to sleep.

    2. I use an external monitor connected through the Thunderbolt port, but it will not wake up with the MBP lid closed. With the lid open, the external monitor works fine.

Before today’s update, it worked fine.

I have opened a case with Apple.

      1. Further info, before today’s updates, my 2011 MBP worked in clamshell mode with an external monitor, but after today’s updates it will not wake from sleep mode with the lid down. With the lid up, wake from sleep works. Case opened with Apple is now at level 2. Have resinstalled O/S, used Disk Utility to fix hard disk, tried disconnecting various peripherals. Only time Clamshell works consistently is with only the mini-adaptor for the Thunderbolt and my external USB keyboard. Plug in anything else, even an Ethernet cable, and it won’t wake with the lid closed. PITA.

  1. I still want a 64 bit kernel for my Macbook Air, because this would eliminate the need to flush the TLB cache with each and every process switch. The effect would be slightly improved performance and, more importantly, reduced power consumption for even better battery life.

  2. Hi Whogastim,
I have the exact same problem as you although have not tried waking it up without external HD’s plugged in. I went to the genius bar a couple of times now and they advice to reinstall original software and see i problem persists as far as I can tell problem persists although I have not completely wiped the computer yet, but from you message I doubt it would change a thing. At the genius bar they also decided that if the reinstall would not fix the problem they would replace the logicboard thereby reseting firmware update but it really seems to have been the last update i did on the 10th May which caused the problem.
IF you hear anything more please let me know as this is really most annoying.

I have a 2.3ghz, 15″ MBP with 8gb ram which sadly doesn’t quite work the way i want it to.
    thanks
    Marcus

  3. Ok i am still in the testing stages but so far so good. Are you using Blcktree secrets at all? Amongst other things you can set time machine to not ask about using this disk for backup but there is an energy saver option which is set to one and i have set to 0 now since then everything seems to start up fine.

  4. Sleeping problems in the elderly are more than likely to manifest in a particular pattern, depending on the health of the person, and the prescription drugs they may be taking for their health problems. The quality of their sleep may change considerably, either because of less demands on their energy as a result of retirement, or through illness..
