Apple Inc. was named winner of the eighth annual American Brand Excellence Awards as the brand that best meets the needs of small to mid-sized businesses.
The award is given each year by The Business Journals, a division of Washington Business Journal parent company American City Business Journals.
“Apple has become the premier business brand, and as the leader of the tablet category with the iPad, Apple is redefining how we work,” said Godfrey Phillips, vice president of research for The Business Journals, in the press release. “Our study found that nine percent of business owners currently use an iPad for business.”
More than 250 brands were rates by more than 2,000 small to mid-sized business owners. Criteria included “forward thinking,” “behaves ethically,” and “has a good price for what you get.”
Companies were also named winners for in individual categories:
• UPS was named Best for Business Services
• Visa topped the Financial/Insurance category
• Staples was chosen for Retail
• Verizon Wireless for Telecommunications
• Southwest Airlines for Travel
Apple was also named winner in the Technology category.
Charlotte, N.C.-based American City Business Journals owns 42 websites and 64 publications. It is a unit of Advance Publications Inc., which also operates Condé Nast Magazines, Parade magazine, Fairchild Publications, the Golf Digest companies, Newhouse Newspapers and cable television interests.
