“The World Mobile Conference is kicking off in Barcelona today, once again minus the participation of Apple,” Michael Hickins reports for The Wall Street Journal. “Mobile device market analyst Michael Gartenberg tweets on the irony that ‘the long shadow cast over Barcelona comes from the company not exhibiting there. That’s now become common.'”
Jockins notes, “In 2010, remember, Apple has just unveiled its iPad; and the 2009 event was overshadowed by the recent success of Apple’s App Store and rumors of an upcoming third revision of the iPhone. Apple also manages to overshadow the Consumer Electronics Show every year without actually attending.”

Apple gets more PR points for not showing. They let their products do the talking! 🙂
Very good!
Cell phones – – – talking.
Absolutely
It should be renamed the “Scared Sh!tless Conference”
In 2011, the Verizon iPhone 4 and the rumors regarding the iPad2 overshadow this event. Next year this event will be overshadowed by talk about the iPhone 5 and NFC along with rumors regarding the iPad3.
Not that anybody in Barcelona (Spain) cares much about an American carrier (Verizon)…
Actually, with the Verizon iPhone chipset and a non-removeable SIM card, Apple has an all carrier phone. Probably of concern to Barcelona.
I suppose especially if the iPad 2 is that much lighter to make it worthwhile for more people to carry around everyday, the market for a smaller – less fully featured “smart” phone becomes that much bigger.
The only way a small iPhone will work is if it’s main features are it makes trouble free phone calls, sends texts and e-mail and it also functions as a WiFi hotspot.
In the past, these trade shows have always been dominated by those who would like to bury Apple. Sometimes the best way to fight back is simply to deny them your energy.
anybody remember, last mobile conference didn’t Microsoft talk a lot of smack about how they were going to bury apple? Anybody remember the details?

“…deny them your energy…”
What the hell does that mean? Is that English or rap?
How does ‘energy’ equate, I presume, to attendance?
Translation please.
Energy follows thought!
