I’m upgrade eligible – I was thinking of waiting until I could spring for an iPhone 4, but this may make me reconsider.

“Regulatory Cost Recovery Charge”- Isn’t that a cost of doing business?
Verizon iPhone is coming. Hence the scrambling…
ATT preparering for the big Verizon announcement. AAPL stock price will rise 10 bucks on that day, I guarantee it.
I am still using my original 2G (1st Gen) iPhone. This is a horrible deal. If I were inclined to commit to a 2-year contract extension (which I am not,) I would get an iPhone 4G – the cost differnce over the 24 months is negligible.
As it is, I will wait to see what Verizon offers me next month. Maybe some competition will be good for consumers like me.
I got one free from best Buy a couple of weeks ago for a daughter.
What good is having “the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network” if you can’t get a signal? Three generations of my family met for Christmas at grandma’s who lives less than 3 miles from AT&T headquarters in Pleasanton, CA (SF Bay Area.) 6 iPhones (various models) and nobody could get a signal. Grandma started with PacBell Wireless (which became Southern Bell Wireless, then SBC, then Cingular, then AT&T.) Thankfully, one kind AT&T engineer told me a secret that cellular signals tend to gravitate around aluminum streetlight poles, so whenever one of us needs to make a call, out in the rain we go to stand near a streetlight. Verizon iPhone can not arrive too soon!
Did anybody notice that AT&T is apparently afraid, or unable, to spell “agreement” and has thus added a new word, agmt, to the language?
For the last time.
It is NOT the price of the phone that is a problem, it is the outrageously expensive phone plus data plans. Do you really think that someone who can afford the monthly fees can not afford the initial price of the phone? Wake up.
Dumping old stock before the announcement of the iPhone 5? Hmmm?
you gotta love half the public fears the recession — the other half have $200 phones to play games on.

And the more practical ppl stay thrifty, and hop on a $50 iphone, which is pretty peachy if u ask me.
I bought the iPhone 3G S (note the space between 3G and S) when it first came out – 32GB. These iPhone 3GS being offered for $49 is only 8GB. I’m holding out for iPhone 5 before my next upgrade.
If anyone cares, Apple removed the space between 3G and S two weeks after introducing the 32GB iPhone. How’s that for trivia?
Amen, Chuklz! The very reason I do not have an iPhone right now. to get around the data plan, I use an iPod touch for emails, reading online, etc., and a cheap phone (e.g., piece of junk!). The way I see it, I do not need to be able to get online riding down the highway, out on the lake, etc., just need a cell signal for calls. Then, with wifi about everywhere I go now, I can use my iPod touch for online stuff, and that, free! I have been on ATT for over 5 years…
Chuklz is right. The total cost of business is the key, not the upfront cost of the phone. In addition to the fact that I am a cheap (thrifty?) SOB, I have four kids, two of them will cell phones. Four phones with data plans costs way too much right now, and I will end up with six phones on my account, eventually. Apple helped to reduce the cost of cellular voice/data plans, but they are still too rich for me to justify the cost.
Looking forward to the iPhone 8 (or so)…
3GS? Is Apple still making those, or are these old stock or refurbs? Sounds like a ploy to “bait” people into ATT Stores, and “switch” them to some “special deal” on an iPhone 4.
I’m probably getting an iPhone 3GS this summer or fall, a used one in good condition, when all the current owners start to upgrade to iPhone “5” (or whatever it’s called). It will probably cost me about $100-120 (obviously no contract).

Wow – you got a great deal! But don’t you miss her?

That’s like the old Steven Wright joke…
“I went to the movies and the sign said ‘Adults $10 Kids $5’. So I said ‘I’ll take two girls and a boy.’ “
I am not gonna buy it until its price drops further…
