Skype has released version 3.0 of their iPhone app which now comes with video.
Skype for iPhone lets you make and receive free Skype video calls on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and works over both WiFi and 3G connections.
With Skype’s new app, you can:
• Make Skype to Skype video calls on WiFi and 3G
• Call Skype desktop users (Mac OS X or Windows) and other iPhone users
• Two-way video calls supported on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 4th gen
• Receive only video supported on iPad and iPod touch 3rd gen, with no camera
• Make video calls in portrait and landscape
The new app is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4th generation with iOS 4.0 or above. You can also receive video calls on the iPod touch 3rd generation and iPad. Calls can be made between devices using the new Skype for iPhone app and desktops including Skype for Windows 4.2 and above, Skype for Mac 2.8 and above, Skype for Linux and the ASUS videophone.

Yea, but on the Android the “retards” can use the Qik with a real 4g phone on a real 4g network and it actually works as well as iPhone and facetime on wifi. The skype over the AT&T network has been tested by Engdaget with not so favorable results. Suck on that one!

G4speed has been tested by experts. They have concluded that 4g speeds are as fast as the best 3g speeds, therefore no real change. Google it, and read more abou what the experts say and not what the ads are saying. You need to do you homework!

T-Mobile’s speeds have been tested at well over twice the speed of WiMax and Verizon’s LTE. I wouldn’t even bring up AT&T’s network in that comparison. No contest.
@ Zune Tang… I don’t know if your for real or a satirist, but I’ve got a WP7 HD7 and it’s awesome what MS has done with their OS. It’s got real potential. I love my Android, but the WP7 is very sweet and more simple than even the iPhone.

I have a T-mobile 4G My Touch and Qik doesn’t work worth a crap. My Android is a POS. BTW, why are you annoying the Mac users? Why aren’t you playing with all the crapware TM Loaded their phone up with?
At best the claimed 4G from Sprint and Verizon are 3.5G – they are barely faster than 3G. Real 4G is 100 MBps – none of them exceed 15-20 right now.
It’s called marketing and advertising folks – don’t believe everything, don’t be the sucker that PT Barnum spoke of.

Even after my second coffee today this still makes no sense.
No need to “flip back and forth” with 3GS. Why would you? If you use skype on your laptop and call your friend on her laptop, you both just have one camera, say the built-in MacBook Pro’s, and both of you can see each other (and your selves) while video chatting. Ofcourse a one camera smart phone with video can do this. Skype just out-smarted the 2 camera iPhone 4 by providing the obvious, elegant solution. Why do you even need front and back facing cameras to do two- way video calls when we never needed two cameras with our notebooks? Can someone explain this, please.
@Smarter Skype: because you don’t take pictures in front of you with your laptop. And the camera on the laptop faces you. You can’t do a proper video chat when the camera is on the opposite face of the screen…. That’s why Apple put two cameras in the iPhone 4.
Because on laptops cameras are on the same side as the screens. Got it?
This isn’t new. You were already able to facetime with computer etc. over 3G with Yahoo messenger. Also with other network phones like iPhone4 with Evo. Only change is the brand. Instead of saying “Oh get on that old service called Yahoo messenger so we can video chat….” to “Get on Skype so we may video chat!”
Skype needs to have push on the app so I don’t have to have Skype running in the background draining my battery.
And to the Steve that said TMo is 4G… it’s marketing. No one is even near the ITU’s standard of 4G.
TMo’s “4G” is HSDPA+ — the same technology that AT&T is rolling out this year. LTE+ – which no one is rolling out yet is capable of 4G certification.
Use Android if you want, but at least get your facts straight before coming off like a douchebag.

I update my Skype app after seeing this..
Fire up skype, and get a popup warning “this version is only supported on unmodified iPhone OS 3.0.x, 3.1.x, and 3.2.x.”
So…. anyone want to point me in the right direction here, i guess i need to put 3.2 on my iphone 4. lol.

Used it to call my mom to test it, Facetime works better IMO. and Skype will NOT let my iphone to shut off if the app is open… have to close the Skype app so the iphone will autolock again. yay, battery drainage!!!
I’ll keep the app for those unfortunate souls that do not have a Mac or iPhone 4 yet…

4G speeds on both Verizon and T-Mobile are only marginally higher than 3G on AT&T. There’s a BIG difference between theoretical maximum and real-world. And Verizon is NOWHERE near the “100x faster” that they currently claim in their ads.
I just ran the FCC Mobile Broadband Test on my iPhone 4. I’m in Washington, DC and just got 4.22Mbps down and 1.61Mbps up with 231ms latency.
4G is 100Mbps and up. NONE of the networks in America come even close to that.
So, now you have something on which to suck.
