I like Woz, but anyone listing to him for business advice, or Apple secrets is stupid. Woz created some of the most important advances in computer history. He also crashed a airplane and had a brain injury. Woz likes to experiment with new electronics, people see him with non Apple products and make a big deal out of it. He just likes to take new gadgets apart and see why they tick, he always has. He owns a shit load of Apple stock, helps when you are a original investor, but does not sit in board meetings. Business was never one of strengths. To use anything he said for investment purposes is beyond stupid.

Woz is a human being just like that other Steve. He did good things. No need to make him a super hero and no need to vilify him for mistakes.
There’s a reason for not signing up on the Woz fan list. He is not the odd goofball everyone likes to imagine him to be. Instead, if you have read many of his old interviews and “off the record” spouting, you’d notice he can be quite petty and jealous against Steve Jobs. It’s the constant pettiness and mean campaign over the decades that have turned off a good deal of folks who would have otherwise championed him. Wozniak is a self serving man, better than the result of best dorm room assignment maybe, but not better than thousands and thousands of great engineers before, during and since his stint. He’s not a one in a billion, like Jobs is, and that eats him up, I think.

Another case in point: Woz saying Nuance was acquired. That sounds like inside, non-public info from someone in a position of authority. But it turns out he was just wrong. Nevertheless speculators made the stock move dramatically.
Imagine instead of Woz saying this in public he mentions it in private and the other party sells this info to an “analyst”. The analyst then passes it off as believable (because it came from Woz). It gets a lot of value because it is non-public. But it’s just as wrong.
Woz has become your average guy, while the media still thinks he’s an Apple insider. You ask the average guy what’s going on and he says all sorts of stuff he thinks he’s heard. That’s Woz. It’s the media’s fault for thinking Woz ACTUALLY knows something.

There is only ONE problem with Woz. The media seems to completely misunderestimate (to paraphrase the last American president) the guy’s links with Apple.
In other words, they all think they should carefully listen and scrutinize everything Woz says and does (such as getting an Android phone, or this Nuance acquisition gem) and treat that as a significant, reliable, inside info, which it isn’t.
Woz has his own opinions and reasons for doing things much like anyone else. For many reasons, he has long lost his direct connections with Apple, and is no more informed about them than most of us regulars here. Clearly, the media never got that memo…
