Back up your data before updating to iPhoto ’11

“We’ve been getting an unusually large amount of user submissions about issues when upgrading from iPhoto ’09 to iPhoto ’11,” Seth Weintraub reports for 9 to 5 Mac.

“Specifically, some people are losing some or all of their photo libraries when upgrading,” Weintraub reports. “Also, iPhoto ’11 drops support for older AppleTVs as well as photo calendars.”

Weintraub reports, “Back up your photos and videos before doing the $49 iLife ’11 update.”

  1. the new iPhoto has been very buggy for me – lots of crashes – on a brand new Mac Pro, even. And I’m not liking the new features – it has made a lot of what was useful in the prior version more difficult to accomplish. Now it requires a lot more clicking around while editing – and you can’t see your info at the same time you adjust images or edit them. Pretty poor ‘upgrade’ overall.

  5. Actually, I’m getting to like the new iPhoto; it has some new ways of doing things that make sense and save time and repetition. And I’m loving the new slide show themes.

Trouble is with synchronizing iPhoto library albums with online albums (esp. Flickr and FB).. BIG messy problems if you have dozens of ‘sets’ / albums. It looks like a product that was rushed out a month or two early to enhance the new Macbook Air software package. Maybe it will come good with 10.6.5 . Suggest if you have more than one Mac to only instal on one (coz it’s fun!) until the bugs are ironed out.
