  1. iPads on Verizon and iPads being sold in Wal Mart, Target and Verizon stores. Pretty amazing.

Next year: iPad 2, iPhone 5, iPhone unlocked to multiple US carriers, maybe 10.7 released, and you know Steve has some more tricks up his sleeves.

$500 or bust. Soon we’ll be counting the days when AAPL beats GOOG share prices.

    Shareholders rejoice!

  3. Wow. I think it would be interesting to start listing CBS and Comcast in the Market Cap list. Currently at 12B and 53B respectively. If they don’t want to play ball Apple could just buy them up with their spare change. That would ensure an aTV smash hit.

  5. The difference between AAPL and the NO. 3 MSFT market cap is a staggering $66B (!!!). Meanwhile, the difference between AAPL and the largest company in the world: $45B.

Is it really possible that the once beleaguered and written-off Apple will end up being the most valuable company in the world in a matter of few months???

Five months ago, when AAPL surpassed MSFT, Jobs said “Surreal”. I’m not an English native speaker, so I’m struggling to find adequate a word for the moment when Apple surpasses XOM. Any help out there?

  7. hmm. what would have happened if I spent 40000U$ on Apple stock in year 2001 instead of some other deal that screwed me up. I would not be sitting here wondering where to get my next meal. But I’m kind of happy that those guys are dead, confirmed by Hong Kong police.

  9. We may have a few more days of this since earnings report won’t be till Weds. With Google up on positive news it looks like the market is in a good mood for once.

Apple may climb up to $350 soon if the hype is on a high.

  11. today’s XOM price- APPL needs to be $363.35 a share to overtake it. Not too unrealistic at all given apple’s for sure future growth. tuesday is going to be awesome one way or another.

funny, it’s listed that there are 11.75M shares of APPL shorted.

OUCH! must hurt to be carrying that hehe.

  13. Quite a jump today, even though a $12 increase today is the same (percentage) as a $4 increase when AAPL was trading at around $100 not so long ago. I think it is safe to be long AAPL right now, because I think Apple will surprise even the more optimistic analysts with results for the previous quarter, plus the other nice surprises the “Back to the Mac” event will likely bring next week. The general market is also in a wait-and-see mode for the mid-term election in November, and Republican gains will be seen as a positive.

But the over-exuberance here is pretty thick. The last time I read comments like this was when AAPL was flirting with $200 (the first time), before it dipped below $80. So the trip from $200 to $300 went through $80. That was only about TWO years ago; how quickly some people forget…

Deciding when to “realize” some of your paper profit is just as important as deciding when to buy some more shares.

  15. @ Nerd Beautiful

Yes, but the point is, most people never expected the financial crisis, until it occurred. Then, it was SO obvious. Can you say the worldwide economic situation is any better today, compared to 2 to 3 years ago? In some ways, it is worse…

Many (if not MOST) of the factors that affect AAPL price are out of Apple’s control. So Apple can continue to be a great company, but AAPL (the stock) will not always be a great investment.

    > Yeah, $100 to $200 went through $80

Your memory is incorrect. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> It was much more extreme. It was not $100 to $80 to $200. It was $200, all the way down to below $80 and then (after floundering for a few months) the steady (more or less) climb from under $100 to over $300 during the last two years. A spectacular climb (after a spectacular fall).

  17. future growth/earnings. When that stagnates the climb will stop. When will that happen? not soon. there is too much momentum..

all the market manipulation in the world won’t take down an individual stock that has that kind of growth potential. And the scales have tipped with the iPad. the kind of manipulation we’ve seen up till now won’t work anymore if this Qtrs earnings are enough of a blowout.

  19. Yes, and Apple fell from $201 to $80 something because analysts, Katie Huber of Morgan Stanley, thought Apple would be hurt more than other companies. When this turned out not to be true, then Apple rebounded harder.

While Apple is prone to macroeconomic declines, people should have a better understanding of how Apple sales and earnings may resist broader macro declines better than other companies.

Sure, Apple may go down, and it may go down alot, but let’s at least understand what happened before with some context. Back then, the selloff was helped by ignorance. This time, there’s less ignorance, and hopefully, that will mean something.
