Will Verizon wreck Apple’s iPhone with V Cast and other non-removable crapware?

“Major sticking points in negotiations between Verizon and Apple have reportedly been the wireless carrier’s interest in allowing retail partners to sell the iPhone, and Verizon’s promotion of its V Cast digital video-on-demand store. Overnight, The Wall Street Journal filled in some of the holes in its story filed Wednesday afternoon, adding new details of a purported Verizon-compatible CDMA iPhone,” Sam Oliver reports for AppleInsider.

“The report also [alleged] that Apple and Verizon butted heads over a number of issues, including the wireless carrier’s V Cast digital video store,” Oliver reports. “‘Verizon, in those earlier discussions, balked at Apple’s requirement that Verizon not allow its retail partners to sell the phone, people familiar with the discussion said at the time,’ the report said. ‘Verizon also declined to give up its ability to sell content like music and videos through its proprietary service, these people said.”

Oliver reports, “The expanded report from Yukari Iwatani Kane and Ting-I Tsai also added that Apple will not create a dual-mode GSM and CDMA phone for Verizon’s network. Instead, the new Verizon-compatible phone will operate only on CDMA networks, based on a chip provided by Qualcomm.”

You are presumptuous and full of yourself to the extent of guessing and assuming that I meant something that is a figment of your own your limited mind and horizons, you also have quite a limited panorama and narrow vision as it relates to Apple.

Please allow me to introduce myself : my name is ‘Relative’. Everything is relative

“You mean the way Apple saved everyone from eating AT&T’s shit for the last five years? “

Apple had nothing to do with, nor can it be blamed for ATT’s poor (albeit gallant execution of massive load) and service quality. ATT was more than likely under contractual obligation and good faith promise to perform better than it has and if it had done so to Apple’s satisfaction, it most likely would have reaped handsome rewards…

What I really meant ‘Karnak the great’ – reader of all minds , was that Apple saved us all from being dictated to in every possible way by the telcos, the way it was prior to iPhone.

Remember the crappy Motorola Apple phone experiment?
Remember the pre iPhone cellphones and what they offered as a user experience?

Apple took over control of all of those aspects and many more, turned the Cellphone into iPhone, a true marvel of technology and escalated demand and fanfare of cellphones into ‘must Have’ consumer desired smartphones and ‘star status’.

Remember what touch was before iPhone touch and multitouch…?
More like press and break a finger…

“If Apple didn’t compromise… we’d never hear tales of replacement products post-warranty”

How on earth do you see the good will effort and public relations, good business practice and the good will value of replacement products past warranty as “Compromise” ???

That my friend is twisted pathetic logic and limited horizons to the max.

”You have this delusion that Apple never compromises the user experience”

Hey Sigmond, you are the delusional one if you judge words as absolute, conclusive and definitive regardless of their context and legitimate literary use, especially when they represent generalizations that are then related to further and in context.

As a generalization and in principle Apple doesn’t compromise the user experience. That’s what drives it and certainly the objective.

That’s not to say that Apple never makes mistakes or that everything is perfect. That is never true anyway of anything or anyone…So when we say “perfect” someone can always disagree and pick at the word, but we use superlatives nonetheless to illustrate a high standard and quality the is relative to anything comparable that we know…Is there room for improvement ? Always.

Would you rather wait for ever till perfection, which will always be lacking to someone that wants to be a smart ass and ‘know it all’?

Apple is methodical, consistent, does not compromise it’s principals, quality and high standards for a quick buck – that’s an indisputable fact. It doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is perfect or the best, or that ‘YOU’ agree and accept it’s choices.

Apple products are the best out there, the most fun, user friendly, supported by a company that isn’t afraid to do what’s right on a case by case basis and a company that isn’t afraid to be human before and after all.

“Clearly, Apple’s relationship with AT&T is indicative of a compromised user experience. How many times has AT&T publicly humiliated Apple, forcing them to compromise features and services on their customer’s behalf?”

Clearly to who Sigmond? YOU ???

You’re such a reactionary old fart.

I try despite my attitude which may be more than you can handle (Rock’nRoll is all attitude and groove…) to focus what I have to say on Apple and it’s products and never with any self importance, on ME….

Eat some humble pie, turkey, and get off your high horse – You don’t represent me nor many other Apple users.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Try debating and discussing the little details and seeing beyond the noise – try keeping a balance between your ever thumping ego and the other side of your face and maybe you’ll appreciate how Apple dances the dance with ATT and why silence is golden….

I’ve had every Apple product since day one and have more Apple personal and professional experiences with Apple than you could count, I’ve not always been happy about many things , in fact during Job’s absence, I was far from it, but when there was merit Apple usually listens and makes good. Not always, but just because your girlfriend shits and it smells, doesn’t mean you go out and trash her in public….

Yeah, so Jobs won’t live forever, so now that you’ve stated the obvious, so will you.

Apple has plenty of substance of it’s own- now’s the time we’re in.

I had to chop away at the above post because it was too long for MDN’s 5000 word limit, so let me just add that you seem very out of character and need a serious attitude adjustment…

I can assure you that Apple rode the ass off ATT whenever it received specific complaints from it’s customers relating to warranted resolvable ATT issues and ALWAYS made sure that ATT resolved customer issues beyond lip service.

  5. I have an iPhone , and a phone with verizon, to be honest , I believe AT&T has a better Data network than verizon !!

As far as calls, I don’t make too many on the iPhone so I can’t tell

I don’t think verizon is SO much better than AT&T. Also , verizons
Customer service is REALLY going downhill .. Happy with my iPhone on AT&T !!!

  7. Hey hold on to your pom poms there, fanboy! Did I hit a nerve?

Way too much sarcastic analysis and it’s obvious you’re way too emotional, so I’m gonna pretend I don’t even know you, and look elsewhere for stimulating conversation.

  9. The #1 reason to NOT use the iPhone on Verizon:

No multitasking of phone calls and the Internet.

Apple customers who have used the iPhone previously on Cingular / AT & T are going to be annoyed, to put it mildly. The problem is due to the lower quality cellular technology used by Verizon and the lack of standardization in the industry.

  11. MDN member kcwookie sez: “Just skip Verizon and come to T-Mobile.”

Exactly. If I were Apple that’s what I’d do. Current iPhones are already compatible with the cellular technology used by T-Mobile.

I suspect the customer market will decide whether it is worth the loss of functionality by using Verizon cellular technology instead.

I read the linked article and all I saw was that someone read an article in USA Today. Was it ever officially stated by apple? All kinds of crap gets printed/run by the press without having legitimate backing of the parties involved. I hate to keep beating a dead horse, but (I will anyway) how does a USA Today article prove that Apple and AT&T had a 5-year exclusivity deal?

Too often we read articles where it is obvious that the writers have not verified their sources. We are no better if we promote such.

    From your linked article:
The [plaintiff] quotes a May 21, 2007 USA Today article – published over a month before the iPhone’s release – stating, “AT&T has exclusive U.S. distribution rights for five years-an eternity in the go-go cellphone world.”

  15. VZW apps on my current phone are an unwelcome distraction. They are not friendly and seem to milk you for money at every turn. I hope Apple wisely negotiates a No V-Cast deal and that Verizon finds some other ways to tap into our wallets.
