HP’s forthcoming Windows 7 slate leaks (with video)

A video that appears to be of HP’s forthcoming Windows 7 tablet has been leaked, or trial-balooned, via YouTube:

MacDailyNews Take: If this is the real deal and they actually release that piece of crap, HP’s in even more disarray than we suspect. The only thing Apple has to fear from HP’s Windows 7 tablet is death by excessive laughter.

  1. There is no way this could be real–at least, not current. Maybe they were planning on shipping this PoC before the iPad was released, but since then, they bought Palm and are supposedly building their new “slate” using an evolution of WebOS. HP management could not be quite so myopic as to think this Windows 7 joke is worth selling, could they?

  2. We are quick to condem, but the thing that leaps out at me is the speed with which I.E. seemed to be rendering. This is also a function of the speed of your connection, but my iPad is very slow rendering pages in comparison, on a 14Mb down connection. Safari seems to get held up dealing with extraneous ads, figuring out it doesn’t have certain plugins, etc. That HP “piece of shit” was blasting out pages instantly.

  4. Um, correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this why the tablet pc didnt take off in the first place? Because they tried to cram an existing UI onto a piece of crapware that it was not specifically designed for? This is just a last death gasp for Windows “tablet” PCs likened to a bad horror film, we all knew it was coming, but are still surprised they decided to do it…

  6. frankly I don’t care how fast it renders html that’s a very small piece of a computer. I care about process to process comunication (which is non-exxistant on windows) and speed of running programs. at least on ios u can declare a named shared piece of ram.

  8. Blech. What a piece of crap. Interesting, my iPad knows when I need my keyboard. I don’t need to hit a physical button.

What they are not getting is that there have been tablets out for what, ten years now? It is the OS and less the form factor.

  10. This will once again leave consumers aching for something else; an iPad. I have a feeling the reason HP is using Windows 7 on this tablet is because it is only meant for enterprise accounts that need to maintain some sort of consistency with what’s on the desktop in the office – a.k.a. lazy IT departments.

@theloniousMac: That web page that loaded “instantly” was a page on another tab. Also, if you notice it took a while for any kind of touch response while the pages were loading. So even if it did appear to load pages quicker, what good is it if you can’t scroll around the page?
