“Shaw Wu with Kaufman Bros. issued a note to investors Thursday in which he said one potential surprise from Apple could be a redesigned iPod nano with a smaller form factor and no click wheel,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.
“Wu said sources have indicated that Apple has procurement plans for a redesigned iPod nano,” Hughes reports. “He also noted that the image of an acoustic guitar in Apple’s invitation to its Sept. 1 event may suggest that the rumored Apple TV update will not be a part of the event.”
Hughes reports, “Wu does not believe a new Apple TV will be announced, though he added that the Cupertino, Calif., company ‘may surprise.’ But the guitar image in the invitation, coupled with the timing of the event earlier in September than usual, seem to indicate otherwise.”

What happened to the Sept 7/8 announcement dates?
Something else in October???
Think GarageBand Mobile, folks. That will kick total a$$
Stripping the nano of its clickwheel would be a terrible mistake.
First they fscked up the shuffle and now this.
Unless Apple is putting a HD video in and out on the iOS devise. It makes no real difference. At some point all of Apple’s iOS devices will do FaceTime. The HD TV is what I want to up grade soon. Apple give us an all digital iPod touch VCR with video editing. I will take at lease 2 please. Great stocking stuffers for my adult kids too. Ok, I will take 5 please unless I get a deal for 6 of them.
Too many articles beginning with “Analyst”. Like watching a breaking news story, where they don’t know anything factual, yet spend 48 hours speculating about it and telling you they don’t know anything.
It’s a great idea. Perhaps it is the nano touch some of us have been hoping for. Apple has never been shy of being its best competition.
We could call it an iMediaRecorder. Or just an iMR.
Just like a VCR, no deals or contracts required with ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, … Just stream it to the HD input, exit out the junk (commercials, …), then save or upload to the BILLION DOLLAR SERVER FARM you built for us (for a small fee). Done!
This may not be the NEW device or service that Steve Jobs was excited about. But, he has something coming out soon that HE was blown away with. A new tiny nano isn’t it. FaceTime on an iPod isn’t it either.
Think Different. Think Bigger. (No Bill Gates, it isn’t a big table either.)
Apple’s iPad announcement had paint thrown on a canvas. What the hell are these analysts getting so literal for? A guitar image and the September time-frame mean that Apple is releasing new iPods and an iTunes update – but also an Apple TV update too (if it’s ready). When Apple first launched the Apple TV it was at the iPod re-fresh event (Sept/Oct time frame) in 06…

“First they fscked up the shuffle and now this.”
I agree with the first part of that sentence, but there’s no basis for the second.
The in-line controls in the 3rd generation shuffle force those who cannot use Apple’s ear buds to buy an adapter, such as the one made by Belkin, which adds cost, complexity, and (if the reviews are to be believed) unreliability.
For those reasons, I recently replaced the battery in a 1st generation shuffle, rather than buy a 3rd gen version.
As for the nano minus a click wheel — it’s a rumour, that’s all.
But would be great to have a model that somehow retains the shuffle’s simplicity, while returning the controls to the basic unit.
Multi-touch Nano. A Magic Music Mouse.
I never understood the appeal of the iPod Shuffle. Given how meticulously I listen to specific songs at specific times, how I listen to podcasts, instructional audios, etc, I wouldn’t want my music chosen at random for me all the time. Certainly there are occasions where I just want something in the background, but those occasions are becoming so rare that I would not want that to be my only option in my audio player.
