Boston Herald reviews Apple iPhone 4: ‘Surprises with rich bounty’

“Apple packs several new features into its iPhone 4 and improves on several others,” Brendan Lynch reports for The Boston Herald.

“Of all the new features, FaceTime – video chat over Wi-Fi wireless Internet using the phone’s forward-facing camera – is easily the most fun,” Lynch reports. “As far as the boring but necessary act of making phone calls, the iPhone4 worked fine… I didn’t have any problems making calls on the AT&T 3G network, with or without the bumper attached.”

Lynch reports, “Aside from the major new features, the iPhone just runs faster, or at least faster than my 3G, which is about 2 years old. The phone’s glossy screen is also a big improvement – there’s no pixelation or fuzziness to be found anywhere… The iPhone4 is also heavier than its predecessors – in a good way. It feels solid and substantial.”

Full review, which seems to be intended for the most general of audiences, here.

  1. The iPhone 4 does seem more solid. Although I would debate 2 g being imperceptible, I have ascribed the difference to the form factor/materials. The glass/metal on the sides and back vs plastic does seem to make it seem more solid. It does seem slightly heavier to me, but that is probably just perception.

That said, the Boston Herald is pretty…uh, let’s just say their tech section is not as good as the Globe’s, which is like saying the St Louis Rams are not as good as the Cleveland Browns.

I DO miss being able to enjoy my Madonna Blond Ambition or Live at Monterey concert laser discs. That, with my first big screen Mitsubishi, was the bees-knees back in the ’90’s!
