“A number of early Droid X adopters are documenting serious graphical or possibly electrical problems with the handset’s giant screen,” Sean Hollister reports for Engadget.
“While we don’t know how widespread the issue might be quite yet, symptoms include rapid flickering and vertical banding over all or part of the 4.3-inch LCD,” Hollister reports.

MacDailyNews Take: Even when they work, all of these screens look like shit next to iPhone 4’s Retina display.
This is forgivable for CR and the anti-Apple press I suppose, whereas an easily fixable tiny flaw in the iPhone is not. I have not seen the Droid X but I’ve seen all the other Droids and HTCs and next to the iPhone retina screen they all look like doo-doo.
Is this a broken design or a broken phone? If a broken design, like the iPhone antenna, they have to fix it. They MUST. Or they can give folks their money back and recall the lot of them. As this is Motorola, they might find a couple other options to try before they give up.
The real test of a PHONE is in the making of a call. That works? Fine. These smart phones, though, are expected to do so much in addition that just being able to make a call is not enough. If my screen on my Stupid Phone acted that way, though, I’d be ripped.
Don’t know what the big deal is, it just needs a vertical hold knob, my tv from 20 years ago had one.

But do their antenna’s work?
Depends on what you mean by work buster… the internal antenna is in the top of the phone so the proximity attenuation (from your hand “gorilla gripping”) is lower but on the other hand when you actually use the phone as a phone your brain gets that “extra dose” of microwaves (proximity is very important here as well as RFEM follows the inverse square rule (RFd=1/p2)
New studies have also pointed it (microwave radiation from phones) not being great for you cornea as well.
This can be minimized by not putting the antenna in the top of the phone, but you get into the gorilla grip attenuation thing….
As I have said before, I doubt moto’ could get that phone approved in the EU (where stricter standards for cooking your brain with a cell phone exist)
I am so sorry to say this but… There is no bumper case to fix this problem

WOO! Open source RULES!!!
Don’t worry, this is just a cool feature of the android OS. This is exclusive to Motorola. We are calling it Glitch time.
Just another way we are making our OS easier to use for everyone.
Enjoy Android

Bwaaaaaaa-ha-ha-ha-ha! Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Sorry.
Perfectly understandable, it’s a first revision on the design, just give them time to work it out. Now about that AWFUL iPhone 4 antenna issue…
/doublestandard (that is, i’m not being serious guys, put the torches and pitchforks down!)
Incidentally, I was at the Apple store yesterday for the first time since I got my ipad camera kit, and quick checked out the iPhone 4. That screen is incredible, and I couldn’t get the bars to drop.

My Droid X was by far the worst phone that I have used in 10 years. The speaker first began to sound like voices were being transmitted through a “tin can” and the speaker continued to get worse. Today the phone became unresponsive and would not allow me to end a call. The screen would not migrate away from a black blank screen (I can assure you that the screen was unlocked). Touching the screen, pressing the home page button, or pressing the power button did nothing. The only way to end a call was to remove the battery and re-start the phone. All other phone calls from the phone took an exceptionally long time to connect to a cell tower (about 1 minute with 3-4 bars of signal). I can safely say that I am happy to have the Droid X out of my life. It is on a truck being shipped back to the factory where it should stay. I am truly dissappointed with Motorola, and waiting up until 12:01 Thursday morning was not worth the trouble.
This Droid X screengate issue is just like a B-grade movie. Nobody is going to pay any attention to Motorola, a has-been company with a chequered history. So boring!
But when it comes to Apple, every paparazzo, every blogger, every print media practitioner, every TV station, every click devil, every podcaster and every Apple-haters want to have a piece of the action. Even senators are known to bolster their popularity with a dash of Apple sauce. Every production on Apple is guaranteed to be a first-run smasher.
This is what happens when you buy a fake iPhone…
Nah! Must be seeing things, just an optical illusion. Droid is good yah!
