Apple today released iOS 4.0.1.

Apple’s release note for iOS 4.0.1 state that the update “improves the formula to determine how many bars of signal strength to display.”
Get the update via iTunes now (unless you’re running 4.1 beta, in which case 4.0.1 won’t show up, of course).
Apple also released iOS 3.2.1 for iPad which addresses a number of issues, including:
• Improved Wi-Fi connectivity
• Fixed an issue that could prevent copy and paste of single-page PDF attachments in Mail
• Addressed an issue that could cause video playback to freeze
• Improved reliability of video-out when using iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter
• Added Bing as an option for Safari’s search field
Get the update via iTunes now.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Manny S.” for the heads up.]
Its it more snappy?
Broadly absent info. As always.
No fix for Exchange server then, thats bad
The signal bars are snappier
Does it come with a roll of duct tape?
Does it fix the buggy rubber bumper, baby?
@Fred
Apple had basically announced that they were rushing out this update was to address the signal bar issue. I’m sure that they are working on a primary iOS update that will include other bug fixes.
Oh great. Thought for sure an update for our phones would be released.
Top Left bars are now easier to read. (very left bar is slightly larger than previous version) I also went from 5 bars at work down to 4 after the update.
Was surprisingly fast upgrade as well. < 5 min.
Can the updates be downloaded directly or does one have to update during a synch?
When will Apple release a software and firmware fix for rabid impatient morons?
All iPhones banned from our corporate network today, until Apple fixes the Exchange issue which apparently renders the Exchange server unresponsive over time.
I hope the ban isn’t permanent!
How can Apple be taken seriously
I’m not going to update my 3G just for the signal bars.
Hell has frozen over and this might be Armageddon in the making ( serious):
Rush Limbaugh come to Steve Jobs and Apple’s defense:

@Saidin
Thanks for sharing that. I had been concerned about what you would do as I am sure many others were too.
Signal (bars) varies between 3 and 5 on my 3G, although it reacts quicker to signal changes than before the upgrade. Quality of calls is unchanged and no dropped calls (I’ve never had a drop call in the 1+ years I’ve had this phone). Overall evaluation phone still works great. I suppose that all of the bitch birds will find something to whine about.
I noticed that the signal strength indicator is different too. I also noticed that the signal looks weaker too. Hmmm. I donno, I’m not sure about this. We’ll just have to see how this works out.
That is obviously not a widespread issue, given how many Fortune 100 use the phone.
Maybe you need to look to fixing your half-assed corporate network, instead.
Installed the update on my iPhone 4. Tried the death-grip. Got an instant 10,000 volt shock and a video of Steve Jobs laughing.
@Fred West,
That sounds more like pissed off IT guys who have always hated Apple and everything they make finding any reason to blame something on the iPhone. It’s more likely a Winblows issue and they won’t admit it. I’d like to know if their ban actually solves the issue. Keep us posted, please.
Hope they get a bigger fix soon, my iPhone 3G freezes all the time and now frequently reboots when I try to answer a call.
@ Sarasota
Open iTunes, plug your phone into an USB port, when iTunes sees your phone press the check for update key and follow the directions.
@Sarasota,
You need to sync it with iTunes – no over the air updates.
@Deus Ex Technica,
Has Gizmodo yet claimed that the update has made the iPhone’s reception worse?
@Jeff:
Have you tried a system restore?
