“Wells Fargo & Co. spent two years studying the iPhone before letting bankers use the device at work,” Rachael King reports for Bloomberg. “Apple Inc.’s iPad, released in April, took just weeks to get cleared.”
“This time around, safeguards against security breaches are stronger from the start, according to Megan Minich, a senior vice president at the San Francisco-based bank,” King reports. “Her colleagues used two of the first shipment of 15 iPads to demonstrate financial products at an investors’ conference in May. More are on the way, Minich said. ‘We’ve got a bunch ordered that we can’t get yet,’ she said in an interview.”
King reports, “Apple, known for courting consumers with sleek designs and easy-to-use software, is making inroads with corporations that say the iPad can make workers more productive without putting sensitive customer information at risk, Bloomberg Businessweek.com reported. SAP AG, Tellabs Inc. and Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz are using the tablet-style computer for tasks as varied as accessing work e-mail, approving shipping orders and calling up on-the-spot auto-finance options… ‘A lot of businesses right now are in experimentation with these devices, said Dan Shey, practice director for enterprise at ABI Research in Oyster Bay, New York.”

Very well. However their website still blocks Safari when trying to make a payment on my car loan. It all worked fine when it was Wachovia and then Wells Fargo took over and then all of a sudden it was not compatible with Safari and reffered me to IE.
Wells Fargo? Seriously? Their credit card website was one of the worst I’ve ever used. I’ve blacklisted them for eternity based on how bad the user experience was.
Now I’m expected to believe they are embracing cutting edge tech?
If a company doesn’t support Mac OS X and iOS mobile devices, then I am not interested. That may be small minded and limiting on my part, but it is my way of voting with my dollar. I patronize companies that show some concern for customer convenience and experience.
Hmm, Where is Oracle mentioned. Former Apple board member Ellison must have his nose out of joint.
Oracle is the worst supporter of Apple products. Many microsoft only products.
I am still puzzled at how this company and it’s products continues to grow. There is nothing interesting or intuitive about it’s products.
Microsoftian by any stretch of the imagination.
Mac4Life: “Very well. However their website still blocks Safari when trying to make a payment on my car loan.”
Have you tried using Safari’s User Agent? It allows Safari to disguise itself as IE to the server. I used UA (and its Firefox counterpart) when my old government in-house web site started blocking all non-IE browsers. Except for a few IE-only web elements, I was back in business.
Surfing and mailing. Not really any kind of “productivity” but, hey, do you see how cool this thing is?
Spoken like someone who is not using one..
@KingMel “I patronize companies that show some concern for customer convenience and experience.”
lol lol lol… companies like which one? Microsoft??? you are funny man.
Every now and then a comment is so stupid I have to call it so.
Troy, what crack are you smoking. What you asked makes utterly no sense based on what KingMel said.
Do you skim or read? Don’t skim.
Nowhere in the article was there a pitch to use this bank’s services…
…but that sure as hell doesn’t stop you from making this story about you and your browser and whether this bank is worthy of YOUR attention.
The article’s most salient point is about a technology company who
didn’t even appear on this financial institution’s radar one day and the next how they can’t get enough of Apple’s products.
@Varth Dader
“lol lol lol…”
‘nough said?
Banjo, the lols don’t explain anything.
Why would he intentionally quote, pretend the quote says the opposite of what it says, and make fun of the original poster.
Guess you skimmed also?
@Chaz
Oracle does have a few apps (6-7) in the app store for free that hook end users into their enterprise software. SAP appears to only have a 2 apps that are for Business Objects.
I certainly wouldn’t say there is great support for Apple at Oracle but at least it’s a start. Oracle also has a better vision and support for standards as well as Safari browser support.
What things would you like to see Oracle support from Apple?
Thanks for sharing…
