MacDailyNews app notes: Push notifications to resume soon, high-res graphics, and more

The MacDailyNews app’s push notifications will resume shortly. We apologize for the interruption and thank you for your patience.

In other news, the next update to the MacDailyNews app (version 2.2.4) is soon to be submitted to Apple’s App Store for approval.

It will bring high-res graphics for iPhone 4’s Retina display along with Apple iAd integration and bug fixes.

Again, thanks to all of our MDN app users for your patience!

If you haven’t tried the app yet, MDN is MacDailyNews in your pocket! Now, even on the go, you won’t miss a story.

Just like MacDailyNews, the MDN app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch features daily news about Apple, Mac OS X, the Macintosh platform, iPad, iPhone, iPod, and more. It’s where the Apple community goes to discuss these daily Apple-related news items in their own words with real-time Reader Feedback.

The MDN app offers Push Notifications. When enabled, the MDN app will notify users when each new article is posted. As always, to control the various aspects of notifications (Sounds, Alerts, Badges), on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap Settings > Notifications > MDN.

Features include:
•- Quick, up-to-the minute Apple-related news headlines
– Save articles to device for off-line reading
•- Visited headlines change color; so you know what you’ve read at a glance
– Push notifications
•- Easy-to-read layouts for both portrait and landscape modes
– Full article display with dynamic Reader Feedback
– One-button tap for instant, dedicated feedback
– Easy login screen for registered users
– AAPL stock ticker with NASDAQ index

  1. I actually love the MDN app on my iPad and iPhone 4 and welcome any improvements.

The off-line saving of articles alone is enough reason to use the app.

I’m interested to see how the integrated iAds work and how well targeted they are to me.

  2. @ChrissyOne I’m having exactly the same issue I contacted MDN regarding this problem only to be told they are not aware of it. Despite me just telling the about it lol Try emailing them about it 

  3. @ChrissyOne I agree: MDN, fix the “Remember Me” function and the lost comment bug. Other than that i love the app and use it a lot. I especially like being able to “Save” an article. I use that function frequently,

  4. @ChrissyOne: Same problem here, all the time.

The MDN app is a piece of junk.
Saving articles a useful feature?!? What about the fact that you have to go into the article, wait for it to load, click save, wait for save to (eventually!) finish, then back out of the article. Most of them are short enough that it is faster to read right away than go through the save process. Then there was the bug (gone yet? who knows? I don’t use the app anymore), where saved articles had the text “red” replaced by a “file://” URL link to a red GIF file. So, the name Fred Mertz would be something like:
    Ffile://drive/folder/folder/folder/some_long_string_of_characters_in_iPhone_filesystem/colorFF3333.gif
(I don’t remember the exact URL and file name, but you get the idea).

The MDN app works like it was designed by a more-incompetent-than-usual Visual Basic script kiddie stoned out of his mind on burnt PVC pipes.

If you want to see how a news app should work, check out the NY Times iPhone app: loads articles for offline viewing just by launching it. Not perfect, but smooth and very easy to read.

  5. Deleted the app. Better experience via Safari.

If they changed some things, I’d consider coming back to the app.

    1. Cached all stories on launch so those of us who ride the subway could read offline.
    2. Multi-task properly…doesn’t save the state
    3. Speed it up. App is slow.

  6. I get so tired of the complainers. I had a few of them near me in the iPhone line on roll out day. No matter what the kind Apple Store employees did to make our wait more bearable, these folks could only grumble.

I enjoy using your iApp on my iPhone & iPad, MDN. Great job!
