  1. I agree, its needs to be free. Google offers google sync, calendar , mail.ect. And its all free. Similar to what apple is charging for. If apple wants to hold that edge they should make it free, or reduce to like $29.99

  2. People have told me I have been a tool my whole life. So that’s a membership of 39 years ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />

  3. “make it competitive with services like Google by making it free”

Uhm, I am not an economist… but how do you justify competition on free products? Especially when one is ad driven and the other is not.
Also don’t think for a second that if Apple were to make MobileMe free but insert ads the entire world wouldn’t heap on them for some stupid reason or another.

  4. early itools user here also.

Long ago they had the complete Freeplay Music library uploaded to iTools, I downloaded the whole 40 gigs back in the late 90’s.

Now it’s a paid site online. I think the guys left Apple and went out on their own.

  5. @ Contrarian,

“If MobileMe offers a free service, like Google and its Apps, it will probably have some iAd services, or something else for Apple to make money.”

I though Apple was all about selling hardware. When did they turn into Google? If Apple makes MobileMe free it will be free as in beer.

Maybe a bit pricey, but it does everything I need, especially allowing me to share large files & photos with clients, family & friends via a direct URL link. And sync has even worked flawlessly for the past year.

  7. @Mac4lfe:

“Whatever happen to paying for a good product.”

Are you saying that iLife is a “bad” product because it is free with the purchase of a new Mac computer?

    OR

Are you saying Apple should announce at the WWDC maybe, the start of bundling MobileMe with Apple’s mobile products iPhone/iPod Touch… iPad maybe… and make only MobileMe upgrades a ‘PAID’ requirement?

  8. @Everyone that wants MobileMe for free.

Come on guys! If you want free products, get a PC and download all the free crap out there. There a bazillion free apps out there. I assume most people that spend money on a Mac realize that a little extra money buys quality.

It took me a few seconds to find MobileMe on Amazon.com for $64.50. If you’re really cheap, get the 60-day trial, then buy it from Amazon. That works out to about $4.60 per month for the first 14 months (and about $5.40 per month for every year after).

  9. Still not worth the price. $40 to 50 max (IMHO), we are all allowed to establish what something is worth. That is the upper end too. Since Mobile Me primarily supports devices purchased by Apple, I wish Apple would change the business model. 1 free year with each new device purchase, and then a subsidized lower rate $10 – $30 per year for 1 or 2 years.

lol – yes, I do (member since 25 March, 2001).
iTools was free for the length of its life. ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
