Apple to hold special iPhone 4.0 media event on Thursday, April 8

Apple will hold a special invitation-only event that will allow attendees to “Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS” this Thursday, April 8.

The special event is scheduled to be held at 10am PDT in Apple Town Hall in Cupertino, CA.

As usual, we plan to present live coverage of the event on Thursday.

MacDailyNews Note: This OS is in dire need of a new name (it also powers iPad and iPod touch, too). Any ideas?

  1. IOS is what Cisco calls their router OS. Mac OS X Mobile sounds too much like Windows Mobile. I like iMOS and AMOS except it sounds like moss ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> Apple Touch OS ?? Hmmm I like it!

  2. It will be interesting to see how Apple implements multitasking. It will have to work well and preserve battery life. It will be interesting to see how they do that since no one else really has. It will also be interesting to see what the backward compatibility will be. My guess is this will be for 3G and up only. It will be time in June for all those Gen 1 holdouts to upgrade anyway.

  3. OSX lite?

Kinda weird that they call this version 4 after only three years on the market. It’s not too much different from the first version. All they have done is sprinkle in features that should have been included in version 1.0.

Maybe Mac OS 11 will be the same OS across all Apple products in two years.

  4. how about iP OS
The shortest simplest way of describing the OS that runs on all its devices. iPod, iPhone, iPad, iWhateverawesomethingthiscompanycreatesnext ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />

Oh wait, that’d be someone else.

Yeah, iTunes Store needs to be iMedia Store and iPhone OS needs to be iMobile OS or something. Too late.

    Branding. It’s hard.

  7. Cisco’s IOS is upper case, so Apple could probably go with iOS, plus they may already have a deal with Cisco after iPhone that covers iOS too. And besides IOS is for networking equipment, iOS would be for mobile devices
