Mark Cuban: ‘Apple’s iPad going to be huge hit; Will change how kids grow up’

“I can’t wait to get my hands on the iPad. It’s going to be a huge hit,” Mark Cuban writes for MSNBC.

“You can book it right now that it will be the product that kids of this generation grow up with and look back on with affection just like we did with the first video games. Video games changed how we grew up,” Cuban writes. “The iPad will change how kids today grow up.”

“Apple was brilliant in how they cultivated apps for the iPhone and iPod Touch. With so many apps for kids, any parent with young kids and either of these two devices will tell you that their kids use and love them,” Cuban writes. “The iPad will take this to the next level. I recognize that it’s very expensive for most families right now. Hopefully that will change over time. If it does, you can bet every home with kids will have an iPad.”

Cuban writes, “On the flipside, the minute these devices hit critical mass in families, the DVD market for kids, who watch the same movie over and over will end as we know it. Download Scooby-Doo one time and the need to hassle with all those DVDs for the kids at home or on trips becomes a distant memory. A relic of an older generation. That’s big.”

  1. I must admit that I’m intrigued by the possibilities, but I’m not convinced that I want one.

I didn’t see the big deal with the iPod when it came out either though.

However, my houshold has had six iPods and two iPhones, with two more iPhone purchases waiting for the next model.

Apple makes products that you never knew you had to have.

And once you get a taste, you want more.

  2. More I look at the images of iPad, with that inch of bezel, I can’t help but wonder whether it was inspired more by function over form, slightly unlike Apple on the surface at least, and therefore threw a lot of folks off.

  3. Yeah, it should make them even fatter and more sedentary than they are now. Just what we needed.

The future of this country is doomed. If I had half of what these kids get today when I was a youngin, I’d probably never have left the house. Thank God I’m apart of the last generation who actually ventured outside to play with my buddies and chase girls.

America is on track to become a nation that no longer produces men. We’ll have to import them from other parts of the world like we do everything else.

  4. The bezel was necessary for function. Look at the picture above, can you image what it’d look like if the hands cover the left and right hands of the screen?? The iPod touch and iPhone are both small enough where they can be cradled in the palm, so you can put the screen from side to side w/o a bezel.

  5. @ R2,

“Thank God I’m apart of the last generation who actually ventured outside to play with my buddies and chase girls.”

Yeah, but look at you now. You’re right here with all the rest of us fat-assed sissies. What happened, lose your mojo?

So iPad will produce a generation who grow up playing even more video games and watching Scooby-Doo. I’m not sure if that’s the world Steve intended to change with this.”

Consuming brainless Maoists – just the change he wants, long as they consume Apples.

  7. R2, did you not have TV and the phone when you were growing up? That device certainly has kept a lot of kids from going outside to play and chase girls.

You said that “America is on track to become a nation that no longer produces men.” and I certainly have to agree with you there, especially after watching the way the American people rolled over and took it where the sun don’t shine during the Bush administration.

Now I know that many people will be wondering who would be willing to import real men to the United States? After all it looks like China is the only ones willing to do any business with you these days, and heck they are communists.

My goodness, there really are no more real men in the United States.

But I am sure there will be. Just look for the military uniforms. Oh, they won’t be US military uniforms, most of those will be in Iraq, no wait Afghanistan, no wait possibly Iran, no wait, wasn’t Bin Ladin in Pakistan, no wait, they are mulltitasking while listening to Pandora. Oh well whatever, the real men have left your country or their spines have dissolved. Take your pick.

  8. A book was published a few years back on how children of the new generation are growing up ‘wired differently’ through exposure to virtual tools and in particular, games.

As a Dad, I like the notion of one iPad per child in the family… Provided something is done to protect the little ones from certain websites and nasty predators who go phishing.

Any indication of what protection there may be for this device?

Check out the Parental Controls Apple already provides in the System Preferences of your Mac. Since iPad is running OSX, there is all likelihood that these or better will be available for iPad parents. A Call to Apple or a visit to any Apple Store will get you the answers.
