Logos Bible Software has released a free iPhone app designed to help people get more into Bible study than ever before. Unlike most Bible-related iPhone apps, which are merely Bible readers, the Logos Bible Software iPhone app delivers tools and resources to help you study the Bible with your iPhone or iPod Touch in ways never before implemented on a mobile device.
“When we set out to develop our iPhone app, we wanted to replicate the functionality of our desktop software,” said Bob Pritchett, President of Logos Bible Software, in the press release. “Not only did we do it, but we are now able to reach our greater goal of getting more people into the study of God’s Word by giving this app away for free.”
Currently the Logos Bible Software iPhone app is a free download that can access 30 of the Bibles available at Logos’ Online Bible with no registration required. If a user would like to access even more titles, they may register for an account and get access to an additional 30+ titles from devotionals, to commentaries, to original biblical language resources including:
• Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
• Easton’s Bible Dictionary
• Systematic Theology (Strong)
• New Nave’s Topical Bible
• Morning and Evening
• Strong’s Concise Dictionary of the Words of the Hebrew Bible and the Greek Testament
• Dictionary of the Vulgate New Testament
• And many more…
If you have the newest version of Logos Bible Software’s desktop application, Logos 4, then you will also have access to many of the books from your Logos base package. Currently more than 2,000 titles can be viewed on the Logos Bible Software iPhone app and more will be added regularly until more than 10,000 titles are available on the iPhone.
The Logos Bible Software iPhone app is designed to help you do more than just read the Bible. Dig deeper into the Scripture with the Passage Guide. Enter a verse and click “go” to receive a report linking directly to commentaries referencing your verse. The Passage Guide also provides a cross reference list, media resources, topics, and interesting words. All linked to resources in your library.
A second way to get deeper into Bible study is through a Bible Word Study. Tap and hold any word in a Bible with a reverse interlinear and a pop-up will display the English word along with all the original language information. From this pop-up, click Bible Word Study to see the definition, pronunciation, translations, and example uses of the various translations.
Finally, complete your Bible study by comparing verse across various translations with the Text Comparison tool. Open a verse in Text Comparison and see exactly where each translation differs. No other Bible app for the iPhone provides the depth of tools for Bible study that the free Logos Bible Software app provides.

@Sadir al Islami
Sir, Jesus said…”I am the way, the truth and the life…noone comes to the Father except thru me.”
So, either Jesus was the biggest liar on the planet, or he
is the ONLY way into heaven. I believe he mediated a freedom of choice, sinful nature, imperfect human race with a perfect, holy God.
He didn’t say he was a way, he said he was THE WAY.
Oh goody, a Bible app. Just what we needed. NOT!
Hey, Lenny the Lefty, just so you know, Hitler was quite reiligious and he also embraced the occult. Not sure about Mao or Stalin though. Religion is a conduit for corruption.
@the mac that roared
yes Stalin was atheist. And yes religion has been used as a conduit for evil, as in any idiologies
It’s ridiculous to think the universe could have just happened by itself out of nothing. It is such an amazing and complex place; it had to have been created by an intelligent designer which is even more complex than the universe itself. What’s even more amazing is that the even more complex intelligent designer just happened by itself out of nothing – wait, that doesn’t follow any logic.
I thought Mac users were typically more intelligent. There goes that theory.
Well I guess this app is for the iPhone so that doesn’t count.
I love you whether or not you love me. It’s a win-win as I see it. And trust me…I am always right.
See you soon,
G
“Then there are the fanatical atheists whose intolerance is the same as that of the religious fanatics, and it springs from the same source… They are creatures who can’t hear the music of the spheres.” — Albert Einstein
@Lenny the Lefty
Have your heard of Tomas de Torquemada? He was not exactly an atheist. Very nice individual.
Also, please, when you have time, see who really wrote then new Testament. I know they sell it like the word of Christ, but really, look in to it. It will shade some light on to the real purpose of the Christian religions institutions. It is very interesting from a historical point of view. But hey, you might not like history, since you did not know Hitler was very devout religious man.
One last thing, more people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason through out the ages, and guess what, it is still going on.
Except for a few (like EvangelizeWithRespect, and the other Mark), my comment was jumped on by apparently humorless, arrogant ultra-right readers as an opportunity for a vicious verbal and ideological attack. I was merely inquiring about additional apps for topics of importance to a so-called technological society; I wasn’t attempting judge the merits of the Bible app.
BTW, God, I love you, too, and appreciate the eyes you gave me to see, the ears you gave me to hear with, the brain for learning & understanding, and the free will to decide for myself how everything I’ve perceived in this great universe fits together. The book that THEY say you gave me, I’ve read it. It’s a little short on details, but then I don’t think the people you gave it to could understand DNA, or atomic chemistry, or plate tectonics, or even algebra. I do think you put important lessons in there for morality, and how we should treat each other. It’s a pity that so many people who claim to know what it says don’t seem to follow it. But then, they have free will, too, huh?
@ God,
No, I am Always Right.
Obscurantism anyone?
Uggh! Hitler was NOT a Christian. He despised Christianity, as Jesus was a Jew. Hello?!
I get pretty tired of liberals rewriting history and then telling everyone else they don’t know history.
Charles Darwin’s Origin of Species?
There’s more than one App for that.
It’s high time that Apple create a “Religion and Spirituality” section in the App Store.
There are too many religion-themed apps mixed in with Lifestyle, Research, Education. Certainly it’s long overdue that there be a separate section for all of it. It makes finding other apps far more difficult, given the wretched and weak search “function” in the App Store.
SO, if you want something… Quran, Talmud, Bible, Wicca, Zen, Tarot, Taoist, whatever, there’ll be a place you can look and hopefully easily find what you want.
If not, you can avoid or ignore it.
Just to be clear Sparky is NOT Spark.
On topic. I have no idea the quality of this app, but the study of religion is essential in understanding human nature. Belief in God and Prophets, or non-belief in God and Prophets are both a religion.
@Truth
Who said Hitler was a Christan?
Oath of the Wehrmacht & Waffen-SS
The soldiers of the Wehrmacht was ordered to take a new oath (fahneneid) on 2 Aug 1934 (when President Paul von Hindenburg died) and it was:
“Ich schwöre bei Gott diesen heiligen Eid, daß ich dem Führer des Deutschen Reiches und Volkes Adolf Hitler, dem Oberbefehlshaber der Wehrmacht, unbedingten Gehorsam leisten und als tapferer Soldat bereit sein will, jederzeit für diesen Eid mein Leben einzusetzen.”
(“”I swear by God this sacred oath that I shall render unconditional obedience to Adolf Hitler, the Führer of the German Reich, supreme commander of the armed forces, and that I shall at all times be prepared, as a brave soldier, to give my life for this oath.”)
The soldiers of the Waffen-SS however, took a slightly different oath:
“Ich schwöre Dir, Adolf Hitler, als Führer und Kanzler des Reiches Treue und Tapferkeit. Ich gelobe Dir und den von Dir bestimmten Vorgesetzten Gehorsam bis in den Tod, so wahr mit Gott helfe.”
(“I swear to you, Adolf Hitler, as Führer and Chancellor of the German Nation, loyalty and bravery. I vow to you and to my superiors designated by you obedience to the death. So help me God.”)
