“U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu said he applauds companies that have quit the U.S. Chamber of Commerce over disagreement with the business group’s climate change policy,” Tom Doggett reports for Reuters.
“‘I think it’s wonderful,’ Chu told reporters at a solar energy event on the National Mall,” Doggett reports. “He said other companies should quit the group because the Chamber does not fully recognize the business possibilities in taking aggressive action on climate.”
“On Monday, Apple Inc. resigned from the chamber while last month three big power utilities, Exelon Corp, PG&E Corp and PNM Resources Inc, said they were leaving the chamber,” Doggett reports. “Other companies have criticized the chamber, which has pushed for public hearings to challenge the scientific evidence of man-made climate change.”
Doggett reports, “The chamber has said it favors ‘mainstream, common sense views’ on climate change but opposes a climate bill that the House of Representatives narrowly passed in June.”

The Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal reports, “The head of the [U.S. Chamber of Commerce], however, renewed his criticism of the resignations, saying it was the victim of an organized campaign by environmentalists. He said Apple and others have misstated the chamber’s position. ‘It’s pretty clear because we’ve heard it from our own companies that a number of environmental groups are trying to apply some pressure on Chamber companies to apply pressure on us to change our views,’ Chamber President Thomas Donohue said at a press conference.”

Just like you would prefer not to pay even a few bucks for a livable earth for our children, many people would also prefer not to pay for the roads they drive on. Fortunately, for thousands of years sensible people have agreed on using the power of taxation to compel even the stingiest among us to contribute to common infrastructure and defense. (And make no mistake, fighting global warming is an urgent matter of national defense— military leaders are the first to say so!)
Without taxes, we would all still be in the Stone age.
As for making a buck, as a shareholder, I’m glad for more reasons than one to see Apple take sides on a political issue with the majority of the world (that is, potential customers) who understand we need strong action to save our planet, rather than with a shrinking minority of dinosaur-era polluting industries and their American numb-nutz ideologue enablers.

I’m curious about something. As a liberal, there are quite a few liberals that I wish would just go away and disappear into a hole. They are idiots and not worth listening to at all.
It’s often said that conservatives march in lock-step (goose-step, even) with one another, right off a cliff if need be. The argument about CC or GW is moot. There is enough real world factual evidence on both poles and climate disasters causing billions of dollars in losses to property and loss of lives. The wealth of conservatives are often rooted in the past, hence their reluctance to change. Hell for all we know their unenlightened stance may have partial validity. Yes climate change has been happening on earth for billions of years. The real issue here is how it will affect the 6 billion plus members of the human tribe. The last significant climate change event almost found the human race extinct. Can’t spend your wealth if you’re extinct now can you. The earth has already proven it can exist without us, the ironic thing here is the ones with the vested interest in keeping the status quo going will probably be the first to try to buy a solution after the fact.

We have stuck together since the late 1950’s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let’s just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass, each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.
You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O’Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

Gary Kreep of the United States Justice Foundation has released the results of their investigation

There is no evidence that oxygen levels decreased in a fashion that would affect life on the planet. The early planet’s atmosphere was reducing; it transitioned to oxidizing and has been that way ever since.
Carbon will naturally be cycled out of the ground, into the atmosphere and back into the ground. By burning fossil fuel we have changed the equation for carbon, which is being released rapidly in the form of CO2. Natural processes that could balance this CO2 release by storing CO2 in the Earth exist. However, these mechanisms are not being accelerated by human intervention and cannot keep up. As a consequence the present episode of warming is unlike any recorded in the history of the planet, and we are major contributors to it. So please do not compare present day warming to those periods in the past, which by the way occurred much more slowly.
I favor the Greening of the Planet. CO2 is very good for plants. We should be emitting more of it.
