Trend Micro offers enterprise Mac security software

Apple Online StoreTrend Micro is extending its endpoint protection to enterprises who are juggling security for both Windows and Mac platforms on their corporate networks.

Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 is designed to protect corporate Mac users against viruses, spyware, blended threats and platform-independent Web-based attacks on the Mac platform. It integrates with Trend Micro OfficeScan Client/Server, which has been protecting millions of endpoints for over a decade.

OfficeScan’s extensible and unique plug-in architecture allows Trend Micro to give enterprise customers – many of whom are adding the Mac platform to their corporate networks – superior management of Mac desktops, laptops and servers through the same Web console that manages Windows clients and servers.

The product includes Web reputation, a key component of the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network infrastructure, protecting businesses from Web threats for over two years through one of the largest domain-reputation databases in the world. The technology prevents users and applications from accessing malicious or infiltrated Web sites while both on and off the corporate network.

“Cross platform Web-based threats and phishing attacks exist, regardless of the operating system and as more enterprises adopt multiple platforms, they need flexible security that adapts to their needs,” said Thomas Miller, general manager for the enterprise business unit, Trend Micro, in the press release. “Trend Micro has been conducting extensive OS X threat research for over seven years and is currently the only vendor protecting the Mac against native and cross platform Web-based threats.”

Key features of Trend Micro Security for Mac include:

• Group policy management of up to 1,000 Mac endpoints within OfficeScan.
• Streamlined Cocoa client user-interface with hassle free auto-registration to the server.
• Location aware Web reputation policies so employees are protected both on and off the corporate network.
• Protection for both the host Mac OS system and any Windows virtual machines.
• Improved manual scan performance using the Quick Scan feature.

Trend Micro Security for Mac 1.5 is available immediately as a standalone solution and as a plug-in to OfficeScan. Pricing varies by seat count and decreases by volume. For the 501-1000 level seat count, the license price is $19.86 per user. For more information, visit http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products/enterprise/tm-security-for-macintosh/.

  2. All this really saids is Macs are migrating into the Windows world at a rate faster that Windows IT people want. Tend Micro just sees the wave of profit. If Mac’s were not being introduced into corporate networks in large number’s Tend Micro would not feel the need to try and monetize the Mac Invasion. They’d just dismiss it as not worth the cost.
But, Windows IT Blow hards feel they must have virus, malware, Fishing protect for Windows so they want to propagate that to the Mac too. Then I say good job to Trend Micro for easing the burden and removing one of the common barriers that IT types like to use. Has the Trend Micro Virus scanner for Mac contains no signatures and the only Malware it will look for is from trojans installed by pirated software installs and video codec for porn, it should take much to run it. And Trend should not need to update it very often.

Will Microsoft the Mac is moving into the enterprise to stay and to grow. It might just be a pesky little unwanted seedling in the Microsoft Enterprise garden of weeds. One day soon that seedling will grow into an Apple tree and start to shade out more and more of the weeds in the Microsoft’s Enterprise weed garden. One day all the weeds might get shades out by a mighty Apple Orchard.

HP and DELL see the writing on the wall and that is why HP purchased EDS and Dell is purchasing Perot Systems. You can’t make money selling Windows based PCs any more so start the move to a services company and role with the waves of change. The Tsunami is building the only questions will be how high is the first wave and how far inland will it go?

  3. wtf? Seriously is there any other response to this? It’s liking selling bad russian crude oil to kuwait putting this crap on a mac…my god. Doing this to a mac should earn you a serious beating.
