“Bruce Sewell, Intel’s top corporate attorney [is] leaving the company just as its appeal of a massive European Union case gain momentum. And where he’s going might signal his new employer’s emphasis on potential governmental legal issues: Apple announced earlier this morning that Sewell is coming to Cupertino,” Jim Goldman reports for CNBC.
“His arrival at Intel customer Apple Inc. shows Apple’s new emphasis on addressing various federal investigations of its own,” Goldman reports. “The FCC is examining Apple’s decision to delay Google’s Voice application from the Apple App Store, and another federal investigation into both Apple and Google that the two companies shared board members despite their competitive positions in software and smart phones. (Google CEO Eric Schmidt stepped down from Apple’s board, but former Genentech CEO Arthur Levinson still serves on both; and former Vice President Al Gore serves on Apple’s board and is also a top advisor to Schmidt.)”
Goldman reports, “Sewell’s acumen in navigating the legal departments of various federal authorities could be enormously valuable to Apple, especially now, and his loss at Intel, particularly now, will be felt. It’s a top notch hire for Apple, and timing truly is everything, for both Apple and Intel. Apple, good; Intel, not so much.”

It must be true
Now, go sic em Bruce.
F*ck yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Time to get the monkeys off Apple’s back, b*tccccchhhhhhhhhhhh.
Competition between Google and Apple is minor and financially insignificant. That a company like Apple must waste finite resources and senior management time fending off federal busybodies, resources that could otherwise focus exclusively on providing better products for consumers, is a definitive indictment of the Obama Administration. BTW, decisions such investigations of Apple are always made at the top levels at Justice and other agencies, by Presidential political appointees.
@ Original Jake,
Take off the tin foil hat America hater.
If you America haters don’t like it, leave.
Boys, boys, boys, let’s play nice.
If the government doesn’t make companies play fair, then us consumers will get screwed more often than not. As Apple fanboys, we may not like government investigating our first love, but all of corporate American doesn’t have the consumers’ interests in mind like Apple does.
Thus, I have no problem with the feds checking out some of Apple’s dealings and I have no problem with Apple hiring a big gun to help the feds understand the company’s reasons and positions.
What I do have a problem with is government NOT investigating the shenanigans by Microsoft, banks/credit card companies, Wall Street firms, etc., etc. who have been screwing consumers and acting in anti-competitive ways for decades.
@Original Jake
Please be somewhat realistic in your reasoning. Anti-trust regulation was not invented by Obama. The stepped up focus on regulation is a natural byproduct of the recent global financial meltdown which was the result of inadequate/ineffective regulatory oversight in prior years. It would have happened regardless of the administration.
It is a definitive indictment of absolutely nothing at all, except your partisan tunnel vision.
Surely people are not so naive as to think that America is an exception to the rule that money buys power? Maybe you are thinking of another concept that has been shoved aside decades ago by voter apathy (“I’m not a political person”).

The Google Voice issue is a non-starter. Apple has already adequately explained it away.
