Apple has released Hard Drive Firmware Update 2.0 (3.71MB) which reduces certain infrequent noises made by 7200-rpm drives.
These drives shipped with the June 2009 MacBook Pro.
To complete the firmware update process, please follow the instructions in the updater application (/Applications/Utilities/Hard Drive Update.app).
The updater will launch automatically when the installation is complete.
New Hard Drive firmware will be: 0007APM2

I’m glad they released this. I have been wondering what those strange noises were. Infrequent, yes, but disconcerting.
Working fine for me so far. I haven’t had it try to spin down the HD
I wasn’t getting the beeps, just the click of the HD a pause of a few seconds while the HD figured out what it wanted to do… that, and wondering if something was wrong ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”smile” style=”border:0;” />
what if i installed my own 7200rpm HDD? should i get this update?
