Analyst: Apple ramps up iPhone 3G production due to increase in global demand

“Research firm Wedge Partners this morning said in a research note that its checks have found ‘a recent uptick’ in iPhone production, which they believe reflects a pickup in global demand,” Eric Savitz reports for Barron’s.

“And they say specifically that this is not related to the production of any new models,” Savitz reports.

Savitz reports, “Wedge offers three potential reasons why demand may have improved:”

• Recent heavy marketing of the App store
• A wave of regional promotions
• A move toward lower data plan pricing

Savitz reports, “Wedge also reports that “Mac production in the quarter has been steady, reflecting normal seasonality [and] believes that new desktop SKUs could be announced as soon as late March or early April.”
