Beginning today, 350 Best Buy Mobile stores are selling the Refreshed iPhone 3G at US$149 for the 8GB model and $249 for the 16G model, both require a two-year service contract. New iPhone 3Gs currently retail for $199 and $299 at Best Buy Mobile.
“The refreshed iPhone is a great example of the depth of our offering, and clear evidence of why Best Buy is the best place to purchase a mobile phone,” said Scott Moore, vice president of marketing for Best Buy Mobile, in the press release. “Where else can you get everything you need to make sure your phone can be utilized to its fullest.”
With purchase of a refreshed iPhone, Best Buy Mobile customers also are entitled to:
• Complimentary Walk Out Working — including multimedia and smart phone set up and personalization – such as e-mail and data transfer — ensuring that the phone is ready for use when the store is left.
• One year Best Buy warranty on the phone – in addition to getting a full one year standard warranty as part of their refreshed iPhone 3G purchase. If customers want additional coverage, they have the option of purchasing a two year Geek Squad Black Tie Protection service plan.
• Upgrades to a refreshed iPhone 3G by any current iPhone customers
Initially at 350 Best Buy stores nationwide, availability of the refreshed iPhones will expand to all U.S. Best Buy stores that offer AT&T by the end of January. The phones are in like-new operating condition, having been returned during a 30-day trial period refurbished to manufacturing quality grade.

But one has to wonder why so many refurbished iPhones to need to announce it?
I can only guess so many people bought one without realizing one needs a computer to get it going/max it usefulness?
Or so fustrated with Windows/PC?
Or impulsive buys? Or trading it for a Touch of Crackberry which they can use at work?
Apple missed out invading the business space again with the iPhone.
No low cost towers either.
Who wants to bet the Geek squad leaves some personal information on these “refurb” units…
@Old Man, uhm, how many is “why so many”? Did they say? How do you know?
@d’nomder, the $149 price is for everyone. Remember, not everyone qualified for the $199 subsidized price. So, for some people who were faced with paying $399 this is $250 less. And, if this phone is refurb’d to Apple’s standards, it’s just as new as new.
If a retailer were offering refurbished units that were unlocked (with Apple’s blessing) I’d be willing to pay more than the current list price for a new iPhone 3G.
If i had a brand new never opened iphone that i bought without a contract and it says no sim installed can i put in an old cingular sim card that used to be activated but now isnt will i be able to get to the iphone home screen and be able to use the ipod and wifi but not the phone function
