“Apple chief Steve Jobs had a busy summer: Launching the iPhone 3G, introducing it into dozens of countries, and shipping almost 7 million of them. Oh, and lots of flying around in his private jet,” Dan Frommer reports for SIlicon Alley Insider.
“Every quarter, Apple reports to the SEC how much money it reimburses Jobs for business use of his Gulfstream jet. Last quarter, that was $189,000 — more than the June or March quarters, but less than last year’s December quarter, when Apple reimbursed Jobs more than half a million dollars,” Frommer reports.
“Why are we even bothering to look at this? Earlier this year, Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty suggested that if Jobs was flying more, Apple shareholders should get excited. Why? Jobs is “integral to negotiations with international carriers and supply chain partners,” she noted. So when Steve’s flying, Apple’s new-gadget gears are cranking,” Frommer reports.

Does the jet have a wi-fi network? Apple TV for his watching pleasure? Is it a tricked out iPlane?
So, it has nothing to do with higher cost of jet fuel per gallon.
I lurve my Spitfire, watch it fly!
When is dinner served?
If he’s flying for company business, shouldn’t he be reimbursed for the fuel and maintenance of the jet ? And, Yes …. if Steve’s in the air he’s headed somewhere to cut a deal that will benefit Apple and Apple shareholders. Give the man a break, he brought Apple back from the brink of destruction from the hands of the sugar water salesman.
Um, it also means the guy is flying around the world being a busy bee. Doesn’t sound like a sickly person to me.
As if Kathryn Huberty would know.
This jet is going to be the death of us all. I hope Al Gore takes Steve to the wood shed on the topic of Man Made Global Warming.
Oops, I forgot, Al Gore flies around on his own private jet (big mansions, large energy bills, monster boat etc.).
Apple needs to make a lot more aluminum computers and plant more trees to offset Steve and Al’s carbon foot print.
I gased up my car this morning….I blame the chili for dinner last night.
He’s up there in the iPlane making sure cloud computing gets pushed to us more quickly.
He’s got full screen WiMax iChat.
@wmd: Not to worry. Legislation banning the harvesting of any trees is probably in the works to provide the necessary carbon offset. Oh, and the ban on all coal industries.
this is stupid. Yeah they reimburse him for making them millions, actually billions. but ironic, as green apple wants to be, flying private doesn’t help the enviroment, al gore flies commercial. something to think about. talk amongst yourselves. and apple good thing you got that huge bank account, cuz you are about to have a hard ass time getting those numbers again now that your ass is going to get taxed out the ass. Your dollar is now worth only 61cents. but hey i gonna wait for my check to buy one of your computers, thanks mr. obama.
At 2K an hour to fly on average, that really only 94.5 hours in air time. You have destination and return so 47.25 hours one way. Not a lot of trips but the question is where is he going?
This is impossible. Haven’t you all heard that Steve is close to death ?
Steve’s gotta be a member of the Mile High Club then…
GO STEVE-O!!!
@manna: You are correct, I am sorry!
Now that we are turning soy into fuel and foam seats (more carbon offsets). Brazil is now cutting down their forest to plant soy to meet the demand for both foam seats, food and fuel.
Maybe we can have Steve and Al fly down to south america to take care of this carbon offset problem. I hope Steve’s jet uses soy based fuel.
Thanks Al for saving our planet!
I LOVE the comments on Steve being a hypocrite on global warming…. ‘Something should be done to curtail global warming, umm, as long as it doesn’t impact my lifestyle’..
More from the do as I say & not as I do crowd…. What did the French do to Marie Antoinette again?
