  1. Backups!

Even if your only option is a drive tethered to an unbearably slow USB2.0 box, it’s worth wasting half your day to back up your data.

(backups, for me at least, are a relatively quick and painless affair, as they run near seamlessly in the background, my data being sent to an amazingly fast FireWire drive).

  2. Several posters have commented at the macupdate site that Apple had to remove the download shortly after offering it initially – due to a severe bug. Some have experienced issues with the ‘n’ option in the wireless connectivity.

I’m going to wait for a few days before I update this time. I can’t afford a screw up right now.

Here’s hoping this will not fuel the usual whiners.

  3. Hi. I do (always) back up but it is still a drag. I am actually installing a second HD in my MacBook Pro (mid 2007) by removing the SuperDrive, making it external, and installing a HD using an OptiBay. Cool Stuff.

Just why would it take half a day to do a backup if you are doing it regularly? Or don’t you have Time Machine?

I think he is being sarcastic, referring once again to Firewire biting the bullet on the new laptops.

Not only is USB2.0 only 1/3 the speed of FireWire (unless Apple makes it faster like on PCs to make it 2/3 as fast),
but at this point many users of Time Capsule haven’t been able to make their first (ETHERNET) backup since they bought their TC several months ago.

Just hoping this update will quietly fix the latter (or both) problem(s).
