“On paper, the new iPod Touch doesn’t seem much different from its predecessor: A hardware volume switch, a curvier case design and a speaker. Even the capacity stayed the same, topping out at 32GB. But there are also a slew of tweaks and additions which are either unmentioned by Apple, or just don’t become apparent until you actually play with the device,” Charlie Sorrel reports for Wired.
“The 2G Touch feels very different. The curved back and lighter weight mean it sits a lot better in the hand. Hanging off balconies to pick up neighbor-fi, I often felt that the 1G was about to slip from my hand, but no longer. The physical buttons, too, feel different. The main, round home button is a little easier to press — you still get a positive click, but it feels like there is a lighter spring behind it. The top button is slightly more angular and feels grippier. This may be because it is now set into the smooth metal bezel instead of the old matte bezel,” Sorrel reports.

1G iPod touch has half the memory.

“grippier” jeez!
G means generation not GigaBytes.
@MikeR
I sincerely hope you didn’t open a fresh can of ‘grippier’ crap next to the ‘snappier’ crap there. I can live in a world without an ‘obligatory’ wise-crap about if the new OS etc. from now on are ‘grippier’ too or not.
Question:
Anyone know the purpose of the little white rectangular piece (w/ a a long notch in it) that comes w/ the Touch? Got one w/ the Nano a while back too–can figure out what it’s for. Anyone know?
The adapter for the universal dock
@M
That little thing can be used as a stand if your iPod is not in a case of any sort. I think that is so Apple can say “includes stand for viewing on a flat surface” or something like that. Mine just sits in a drawer with my firewire cable from my old iPod.

“Anyone know the purpose of the little white rectangular piece”
You insert it in the Universal Dock so your iPod sits tight in the Dock. There’s one different for each iPod model.
I believe you’re referring to the Dock adapter. If you have an iPod Dock, you can use that insert to make your Touch fit it properly.
Funny he doesn’t mention anything about the bugs inherent to the 2G iPod and WPA support.

Yeah, I’m still mystified by that one myself. It was a few days before I realized there was a polishing cloth wrapped in that tight little cylinder and, of course, I had my own frustrations figuring how to get to the unit in the new gen’ box. Guess they’re getting too “clever” for me. BTW, just *love* my new 16 GB Touch.
Thanks all..never used the Universal Dock before
@krquet
Grippier, that’s got to be the dumbest use of a non-word ever.
@M,
The UDock is nice… use it daily at work to put my Touch (1st Gen) in and listen to music. I think it just looks a little nicer than laying around on the desk.
The Dude abides.
Grippier, its the funnest!
“Grippier, that’s got to be the dumbest use of a non-word ever.”
O.K., so how about STICKTASTIC!
Adhesiarific?
Clingerful?
Gummalicious?
Graspier?
Yeah, but does it scroll like butter?
@GG
Fantabulous?
My daughters 1st gen 8GB Touch still has issues with volume.
She can’t turn it down no matter what methods we’ve tried (various suggestions from the Internet).
